Review of the Thule Ladder Racks on a 2020 Ford F-150

Zack: Hey guys, Zack here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the Thule TracRac TracONE truck bed ladder rack system on our 2020 Ford F-150. This is going to be a solid way if you're looking to carry any kind of longer items such as ladders, lumbers, I even see people throwing kayaks and standup paddle boards up here. It's a great way to clear up some space in your truck, get it up there and secure it nice and still be able to use your truck bed for all those other things. Now, I only have this partially installed. It's held in place with these C clamps. It's a pretty quick and easy way, it doesn't require any drilling and what I like about it is it allows you to kind of adjust it if you want to but we like putting ours in this configuration we have today. So, essentially what you do is you take this bolt and connect it into that foot, and we'll just tighten those down.

And this is going to be an excellent way to make this where it's not a permanent installation, but if you want to leave this on here it's still going to hold on for a long time, but if you needed to take it off it's not going to take much time. Just a couple of hand tools and you'll get this in place.I think the hardware is really nice too. It's got these nice beefy clamps on here. That is one thing, I wish that little foot would kind of hold onto that bolt a little bit better. But, at the bottom of these feet right here too, they have a rubber pad that comes with it so if you don't have a drop-in bed liner or any kind of rail caps, it'll protect the paint there so you don't have to worry about that scratching anything.

It may scuff it a little bit, but I don't think that it's going to do any permanent damage. And then once we get that hand tight, I'm just going to come back with a 7/32" bit here and just tighten that down. Now, I don't need to get that super tight, I don't need to really crank down on it, but just you can see I didn't put much effort into it and that's going to hold in place, I'm shaking the whole truck there. Now, the design of this is pretty lightweight, but it gives us a good capacity. So, it can carry 800 pounds and it's going to give us a range of 65 inches in those bars. Now the full range of that is sort of minimized because it has these load stops on here and the range when I put these load stops all the way out, that's going to give us a spacing of about 55 and a quarter inches, so that's still a really good range.

And what I like about these load stops is you can adjust them the entire length. So if you've got a smaller load, you're just carrying a few two by fours, we can bring that all the way down and bring them all the way out super quick, those knobs are really easy to use. I like that it has these points on here where I could run a strap through here. I think you could do the same with that hook, but I'd probably run mine through there just to make it a little bit more secure. Now we'll add some height to our truck here, and from the top of the bed rail there it will be 26 and a quarter inches, and then those load stops are about five inches. So it's like 31 and a quarter inches, it's definitely sticking up above the bed so if you had any kind of clearance issues in maybe a garage that might be an issue, and especially if you started stacking stuff up higher than that.

But the 800 pounds is going to be really nice, I like that it has a load stops included. The arrow shaped design of the bars are going to cut down on wind noise and drag which is really nice. And I like the matte black finish that this comes in, it kind of has a hammered textured finish to it, I think it looks really good with this truck. If you're not really into the black, it's also available in a silver, which also looks really sharp, but I think both of them are going to hold up really well. We've used this one around the shop quite a bit. You know, when in storage it kind of gets banged up a little bit, but those aren't super deep cuts, they're just some minor scuffs. But overall, I think it's going to be a really solid option for you if you're looking to carry any kind of elongated items to clear up space in the bed of your truck. And that's going to do it for our look at the Thule TracRac TracONE truck bed ladder rack system on our 2020 Ford F-150..
