Troubleshooting Roadmaster Even Brake System with Low Battery-Not Operational Message
Question:
My Evenbrake gives the Not Operational - Low Battery message in the remote unit with a towed vehicle battery voltage of 12.4. I started the vehicle and got the battery to read 14.7 volts, but I still get the low battery message. I checked all voltages going to the Evenbrake main unit, the transmitter and receiver and they are all above 12 volts. Do I have a bad unit?

I can understand how this must be frustrating, but I don't believe that your Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 has gone bad and I've got a few things you can check to make sure. I would start by making sure that the 12v socket (cigarette lighter) you're using is clean and providing you with a full 12v of power; you also may want to look behind it and make sure that there hasn't been a short that might have damaged the wiring.
I also recommend checking the transmitter and the line running directly to the vehicle battery and make sure that there is not a short on that wire and that the ground is firmly connected. I double checked with my tech contact over at Roadmaster to confirm this with them and he seemed to concur that this would be the best steps to check before going further.
If you check those items and everything checks out normally, just let me know and I can provide you a few other steps to check out. One other thing that he did mention was that some vehicles have power save feature, so if this is an issue that everything checks out at first and then the issue pops up after the fact, the vehicle could just be cutting power to the Even Brake and causing the issue.
