How to Connect Truck Camper 6-Way to Truck 7-Way

Updated 07/09/2020 | Published 07/07/2020

Question:

I have a 1973 Amerigo slide in camper that has a 6 pin connector for the exterior lighting. I went to the local rv shop for an umbilical cord and they told me to change the connector on the camper from the 6 pin to the 7 pin connector. Upon pulling the connector on the camper out I discovered the wiring is marked different than the RV shop informed me. Im tracking on the 7 pin you have: Black=12volt positive Green=Tail lights Red=Left turn signal White=ground Blue=electric brakes not needed for slide in Brown=Right turn signal Yellow=Reverse lights On my camper I have: Red=TM? Orange=TL Green=LT Blue=RT Brown=S? Blackandwhite=A The ? On camper wires means I am unsure what it is for. How would I wire these 6 wires into a 7 pin plug to work properly?

Expert Reply:

You do not need to re-wire your camper's 6-way to a 7-way if it is working. I assume your truck has a 7-way and you are looking to connect it to that, which you can do with a simple adapter, the Adapter 7-Pole to 6-Pole # 47549.

I have added a link to a video review of the adapter as well as a link to a help article on trailer wiring you may find useful.
