Question:
I have a 2019 Ford escape, does the bumper have to be modified in any way to install this tow bar, and what exactly do you mean by the heat shield has to be modified? Thank You

You won't need to do any modifications to the bumper on your 2019 Ford Escape but you are going to be required to do some trimming of the heat shield that protects some electrical components from the exhaust heat coming from the muffler and exhaust pipe.
I've attached the installation video of this hitch, which does show you how to complete this task. You'll want to fast forward to around the 2:45 mark of the video to see where it talks about the trimming of the heat shield.
