Westerbeke Oil Filter 36918 Will Not Work with Nipple on Derale Oil Filter Relocation Kit

Question:

I purchased this one and have installed it but have not yet put the boat I the water or turned the engine over. My question here is... after installing it I used a Westerbeke filter 36918, the original designated filter. It would not fully grab the filter threaded nipple though when I tried a Six brand filter it screwed on tight. I have interchanged Six with original Westerbeke filters regularly. Why is it not working with the adapter nipple you sent?

The simple solution for you would be to just use another brand of oil filter like the Six-Star that you referenced. That said, the Derale Oil Filter Relocation Kit for Multiple Engine Thread Sizes part # D15748 is a universal kit so there is a chance that it may work on some oil filters and not others even though they use the same M20x1.5mm threads. The depth of the threads inside the oil filter may be recessed more so than another brand which then doesn't allow for them to grab. There really isn't any sort of fix for this, you will just need to use a different brand of oil filter.
