Does Battery Amperage Double When Batteries are Wired In Series or Parallel
Updated 11/26/2018 | Published 11/25/2018 >
Question:
If you wire 2 6-volt batteries in series you obviously get 12 volts. But what about CCA? If the batteries are rated at 500CCA will it double to 1000CCA?

Helpful Expert Reply:
When you wire two batteries in series the voltage doubles but the amperage stays the same. So two 6 volt, 10 amp batteries in series is still 10 amps. It's when you wire batteries in parallel (voltage stays same) that the amperage doubles.
