Question:
Smart hitch camera coming on randomly. I have a smart hitch i bought from yall about a month ago for my 2011 ford f250. It worked great when i first bought it. Now the camera will not on every time and when it does come on it is real dark and lines come on the screen and sometimes it will get bright. What do you think it could be. I checked all the connections and everything is tight

Have you checked the wires themselves? I recommend starting there to ensure the wiring for the Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera # HM50002 is not crimped or damaged in any way. It would be unusual for the unit to just stop working and it sounds like it has to be a wiring connection somewhere, or a damaged wire. If you cannot find any issue with the wiring the unit will still be under its 1-year warranty since you mentioned you only got it a few months ago.

Just wanted to add, that if you have a truck like mine, with rubber floors, not carpet, and you don’t want to cut the floor,or can’t find a way in from the firewall,if you check between the cab and the box, there is a flap that covers an access hole into the cab,you can run your wire through that hole into your cab,it will come out right beside your backseat in the cab,and then you run your wire underneath the molding to your monitor. You will need another person to help running the wire into your cab,but otherwise it’s a one man job.
