Making a 6-Way Square to 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Adapter for a Motorcycle and Trailer

Question:

Hilittle involved questionhave 2005 Honda 1800 motorcycle trike. Have 6 square female plug on trike. On trailer, have 4 -pole wire harness wired to 5-pole square male plug why I dont know. I would like to put just a flat 4-pole male on trailer and have an adapter to go from flat 4-pole male to square 6-pole female on trike? Have flat 4-pole female on van, so the 4-pole wiring would work there. So am looking for a flat 4-pole female to square 6-pole male adapter if that would work. Clear as mud?? Thanks

Your question is perfectly clear, and it is one that has come up before. Putting a 4-Way flat on the trailer is easy enough. You can use a trailer side 4-Way and splice it to the existing trailer wiring by function.

The adapter for the 6-Way square to 4-Way flat is going to require a little more work. I recommend starting with the 6-Pole Square Trailer Wiring Connector Kit, # 37995. You will need the end that plugs into the vehicle side to make an adapter.

You can then use Quick FixTM 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends, # 48195. You would use the car end on the 6-Way and the trailer end on the trailer. So, the 6-Way, in the 37995 kit, that would normally be attached to the trailer wiring, would instead go to the vehicle end of the Quick Fix 4-Way. And you would have an adapter. The remaining Quick Fix 4-Way would attach to the trailer wiring.

The reason you would have to make an adapter is because the only one available, # 30104, is specifically designed for Jayco trailers and it is not compatible with anything else.
