Recommended Transmission Cooler for 1998 Jeep Cherokee with 4.0 Liter Motor

Question:
Ill soon be moving from Kentucky to Oregon and will be towing around 2000 lbs with my 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0 L. Im looking for a cooler suitable for this application, what specific part # would you recommend ? I also intend to install a trans temp gauge before my trip, what should I consider to be the maximum safe operating temperature for the trans fluid?

Expert Reply:
For optimum performance, transmission fluid should be kept below 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
I would recommend the Derale Class II Transmission Cooler that you referenced, part # D13502. You will also need the fitting kit, part # HH41413.
A transmission cooler is cheap insurance that will protect your transmission from overheating.
I have provided a link to a FAQ article and an install video that you might find helpful. The video shows a typical installation on a different vehicle than yours, but it will give you a good idea of what the install entails.
