How to Install the Peak Backup Camera Part # PKCOBU7 on a Horse Trailer
Question:
Help! I am in need of how to install the Peak Backup Camera Part #PKCOBU7 Insideh my horse trailer. I have been searching the web for ANY information on how to do this and I have found nothing except to install it to the 12v battery but HOW do I attach it to the 12v battery? I want the camera to be on constantly so I can monitor the horses IN the trailer. I am in no way an electrical engineer or even remotely familiar with wiring so saying to attach it to a 12v battery means nothing to me. I need to know HOW to do it. Thank you,

The first step for installing the Peak Backup Camera Part # PKCOBU7 would be to mount the rear-view camera somewhere inside the horse trailer. You can use the Self-Tapping Fasteners for License Plates and License Plate Frames part # CR80430 to install the bracket/camera.
Once the camera is in position, you will have two wires to connect. One will be red for the 12-volt power and the other will be black for the ground. Strip about 1/4" of the jacket off of each wire. Once done you will need to install a ring terminal like part # DW05736-1 on the black wire. The black wire will need to be attached to a clean bare metal surface on the horse trailer using a self-tapping screw like part # FA1131822.
If you have a 12-volt battery already on your trailer, you can attach the red power wire from the camera to this battery. In order to attach the 12-volt red power wire to the battery you will want to use the Spectro 12-Gauge Mini Fuse Holder # SWC9545. To install the fuse holder, you will want to use a ring terminal on the end of the fuse holder and place it on the positive battery terminal about 6" away from the battery. The other end will need to be connected to the red 12-volt red power wire coming from the backup camera. You can use the Butt Connector part # 224775 to connect these two wires to one another.
If you do not have a 12-volt battery on the horse trailer you will want to splice into the trailer connector. Most horse trailers have a 7-way trailer connector. The red wire will need to be ran to the tongue of the trailer and into the existing 7-way trailer connector. You can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2992 to test each of the wires coming for the 7-way to find the correct one. You will be splicing into the wire that always has power using a quick splice connector like part # SWC501915-1. The trailer connector will need to be plugged into the vehicle in order for this process to work.
The monitor will simply plug into the cigarette lighter socket in your vehicle's cab.
