Question:

Hi, I was wondering if this roof rack will fit on a two door 1995 BMW 318is. The roof has no existing rails or crossbars. The car has a small sunroof. The roof has no groves on the top of it, and there is only a small lip where the roof meets the window. I am wondering if the clamp system will work for such a small lip. I am trying to install a roof rack so that I can then install a kayak holder for a 12 foot kayak. Thank you for your time and help!

According to SportRack, their # SR1008 is considered a fit for your 1995 BMW 318is, among several other vehicles. SportRack bills this as a 'semi-custom' fit, meaning it'll fit many different vehicles fairly well.

The least expensive custom fit roof rack we offer is the Inno Square Bar roof rack, which consists of the following parts:

# INB117 46 Inch Square Crossbars
# INSUT Roof Rack Feet
# INK127 Vehicle Specific Fit Clips

Because it's a custom fit rack, the Inno option will fit much better, and I believe you'll be happier with the result. For an inexpensive kayak carrier, I'd recommend the Rightline Gear foam block carrier, part # RL100K10 which includes the foam blocks that will slide onto your crossbars, as well as straps to secure the kayak to the roof rack and bow/stern tie-downs.
