I have a 2002 excursion 7.3 diesel. Purchasing a 2015 Open Range LT272RLS 10400 full weight. 7900 dry. What distribution system would be best? Trailer is 35 feet bumper through hitch. 100inch wide.

The first step would be to determine the tongue weight and towing capacity of your hitch as well as the 2002 Ford Excursion itself. Just a reminder, you always want to follow the weight limitations of the component with the lowest rating.

When choosing a weight distribution system you will need to go by the tongue weight of the trailer when fully loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of your Excursion.

If the tongue weight of your new 2015 Open Range Travel Trailer falls somewhere between 800 and 1,500 pounds, I recommend going with the Strait-Line Weight Distribution and Sway Control System, # RP66130. What makes this system my top pick? The fact that it is easy to install and use, very popular with our customers and rated highly, and features the dual-cam sway control that works to stop sway before it starts. You will just need to add a shank and hitch ball to this system and you will be ready to go. For a shank you can use part # RP54970 and # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.

I have included a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution and sway control that should be helpful to you.
