How To Adjust The Roadmaster Exact Center Steering Stabilizer For A More Comfortable Ride
Question:
Roadmaster Exact Center adjustment instructions are incomplete Can someone clarify how exactly you lengthen or shorten the Exact Center? Instructions dont mention anything about leaving space to adjust the ends when mounting so its easy to end up with no way to shorten the device. A similar question was answered here: question-676189 however its incomplete as it doesnt say HOW to lengthen or shorten the Exact Center. Videos from RoadMaster and E-Trailer seem to indicate you can adjust one end to correct one direction of pull and the other end to correct a pull in the opposite direction. Perhaps that assumes its installed with some space available to shorten?

The Roadmaster Exact Center Steering Stabilizer w/ Custom Brackets # RM47MR typically comes centered and you would only need to make adjustments after installation and testing to see if it continues to pull. If you adjusted it all the way out to where there wasn't room on the ends to adjust then you went too far. The rods are meant to be slightly adjusted out and then locked back in place with the jam nuts.
Roadmaster only recommends turning the rod enough to have the loose jam nut turn one edge-face over compared the edge-face on the end of the eyelet. With the jam nut loose as you turn the rod the jam nut will spin with the rod. This is a very painstaking process since it's such a small amount of adjustment to do at one time and keep testing over and over until it feels right, but it's the correct way.
Essentially the bars should be centered with enough room for adjustment when you first go to install it and you'll let the mounting bracket naturally fall into place and then make adjustments afterwards to fix any steering issues. Having done this installation before I can 100% agree that it sucks to have to get under the motorhome over and over again during the testing phase. I definitely recommend testing it out in a large empty parking lot and bringing some tools with you to adjust the stabilizer.
Since you already went too far you'll most likely need to slip the rubber boot over to see exactly how much room you have to move the rods back over and get it back to an even amount for both sides and then redo the installation.

Hello, I've read through the post and it does not mention which direction or side to turn to adjust for a left or right pull. Does anyone remember? -Dennis
