Compatibility Of Fifth Wheel Hitches With Adapter On 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 With Tow Package

Question:

Hi, I have a 2014 3500 Megacab and the reese adapter on my factory prep fifthwheel. I just got the curt q24 with the slide and it just wont line up with the holes on the adapter. They are high, just about the thickness of the plastic pad. I tryed to drive them in but they wont go. There is no more room for it to go down, it is touching the top of the adapter. Is there a trick or do I need to modify the holes? You would think that it would just in.

I spoke with my contact at Rese and the Reese adapter, part # RP30154, is designed to only work with Reese or Pro Series 15K, 16K, and 20K Non-Elite Series sliding hitches. It will also work with the Pro Series and Reese stationary hitches.

My best recommendation for your 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 with a 6 ft bed is to use a stationary hitch with the adapter, and change the pin box on your fifth-wheel to a Sidewinder. There are customers that use a slider with a 6 ft bed on their truck, but you may run into trouble executing sharp turns.

The fifth wheel hitch I recommend is the Reese Select Plus 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch, part # RP30928. This hitch has a 20K towing capacity and is a fixed hitch. This hitch will work with the # RP30154 adapter you said you have. This hitch also has a limited lifetime warranty.

When selecting a Sidewinder you will need to know the pin box model and number on your trailer. If you decide to go with the Sidewinder, and can provide the make and model, I would be happy to make some recommendations that will work for you.

I have attached some helpful articles about Sidewinders you can check out.
