Recommendations to Carry 2 or 3 Bikes on a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser with Spare Tire Camera

You have two options that will allow you to carry 2 or 3 bikes on your 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser with the spare tire camera. You could use hitch mounted bike racks or roof mounted bike racks. The spare tire camera will prevent you from using a spare tire mounted bike rack.

The first option that I would recommend would be a hitch mounted bike rack. This will require you to have a trailer hitch on your vehicle. If you do not have a trailer hitch on your vehicle and are interested in adding one, then I would recommend adding the Hidden Hitch Class III Trailer Hitch, # 87412. I have attached the installation instructions for you to check out.

With this hitch, you can use any of our hitch mounted bike racks that will fit in a 2 inch receiver. I have attached a link to all of the bike racks that will work with this hitch. I would recommend adding a trailer hitch and using a hitch mounted bike rack because this is the safest and easiest way to load and unload bikes on a vehicle. This hitch also gives you the ability to tow a trailer if the situation arose. The hitch mounted bike rack that I would recommend is the Swagman Titan 3 Bike Rack, # S63405.

To complete your towing setup you would just need to add a wiring harness, # 118405, and the Ball Mount Kit, # EBMK4.

Using a hitch mounted bike rack may interfere with the view of your spare tire camera.

If you wanted full use of your spare tire camera while carrying your bikes, then you will want a few roof mounted bike racks. I have attached a link to all of the roof mounted bike racks that we carry. Roof mounted bike racks will require you to have a roof rack on your vehicle. Be sure you check the weight capacity of your roof and make sure you do not exceed that capacity when loading your bikes. The roof mounted bike rack that I would recommend is the Thule Sidearm Bike Rack, # TH594XT

If you do not have a roof rack on your vehicle, then you could add Rola roof rack # 59724. If you have factory side rails that run front to back and no crossbars, then you could just add the Rola roof rack # 59899 that attaches to the side rails.
