Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk or cargo space, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access this harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk or rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Today on this 2010 Mazda CX-7 were going to install part number 118405 from Tow Ready. The first thing we need to do is open up the back hatch and remove the interior panels. Well remove the floor coverings, well remove the threshold, and well remove the access panels on each side of the vehicle behind the taillights. With all the panels loosened up we can go ahead start installing our wire harness. Well start on the drivers side and work our way over to the passengers side. Now there will be two connections we need to make on the drivers side, therell be the yellow wire for return signal and there will be the red wire for the brake signal and also the running lights.

So basically all were going to do is take apart the connections that goes into the taillight and match them up with our wire harness and plug them in between. And then well go ahead and route our green wire over to the passengers side and repeat the same process. Also go ahead and find a suitable location to ground our white wire. Then well go ahead and find a location to mount our module and well clean off the area with a sheet metal and attach it. Now Im going to move on to the red wire that ran out of the module.

Well attach our longer black wire that comes with the kit and well run that outside to the body through this grommet thats located on the drivers side just ahead of the spare tire. And well make a cut into the grommet and well route the black wire through there. With the black wire ran through the grommet well go ahead and reinstall the interior components. Then well go ahead and continue running our black wire up to the battery. Now when we run the wire up to the battery well make sure we stay away from anything thats hot like the exhaust or anything moving like the suspension components or up front the steering components.

Once we have our wire ran up to the front well route it over through the engine bay up to the battery. Well cut our black wire to length and then well add a fuse holder. Well cut the fuse holder in half, well attach our black wire to the fuse holder with the butt connector and on the other side well get the ring terminal. And then install a ring terminal onto the positive side of the battery. And then we can go ahead and install the fuse.

While our connections are made on the hood we can go ahead and show how to use a 4-pole wiring harness. When we need to use it we just pull it out and then shut the hatch on it, just make sure we stay away from the latch in the center. And then well go ahead and pull out what we need to pull down to our trailer. And with that that will finish it for our install of part number 118405 from Tow Ready on our 2010 Mazda CX-7.

I loved the fact that the harness plugged right into the factory wireing. Instructions and pictures were great. Took a little over an hour to install. Will definitely buy from etrailer again. 18986

The wiring harness was delivered to my front door within two business days. I installed the harness in my FJ and it works perfectly. You will need two tools to complete the job, they cost me $40. bucks but the net cost was still well below a dealer install. You will need long needle nose pliers, I bought 8 inchers. Also, you will need a tool to pop out the retaining fasteners on the trim; if you try to use a screwdriver you will most certainly break the fasteners. You will also need a wire stripper tool to complete the job. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer so the job took about 2 hours to install and reassemble the trim. I would recommend this product to anyone who can read and follow directions. Thanks much to etrailer for a great value and fine product.59796

Real easy to install, at the beginning I thought it was hard to install, but after watching the video provided it was a piece of cake. Julio and Pepelui of Buena Park, CA40634

Idiot proof connectors. A pain to run the wire to the front, but easy enough. I used the rubber grommet on the left side of the cargo area, just behind the rear seat, and stayed on the left side right up the front wheel well into the motor compartment. Take your time. Glad I didn't pay for a tow package. Everything you need in the kit. 9.9 out of 10 9659

Worst instruction sheet ever! Item may be good. Have not had enough time to gauge life span but it does do what it is supposed to but the instruction sheet is the worst. Once you decipher the instructions it installs easily. 1711

This product is excellent! Although I haven't used it to pull the boat yet, the harness came complete, ready to install, and the directions were simple to understand. This was a "plug and play" installation!78278

I just received my order yesterday. I haven't had time to even open it yet. I 'll let you know when I start trying to install my trailer hitch. I don't know if there are instructions inthe box??? I hope so since I've never installed a trailer hitch on a car (Mazda CX7) before. I may be calling you if I have any trouble. Thanks for your follow up. JB Lomax77850

easy install, I took my time about an hour and 15 minutes. Hardest part is getting into the small area's of a Toyota to plug in the harness. 33725

At this point, I have only just installed the hitch and wiring. The hitch was installed very easily and the on-line video at e-trailer.com was very helpful (actually, the video was a primary reason for purchasing from this company). Hitch looks very good. The trailer wiring was relatively easy to install. As others have commented, the trickiest/most time consuming part was getting the black (power) wire to the front of the car and the battery. Overall, very happy with my purchase. The price was as good as I could get anywhere, the on-line video, and (free) delivery as promised are very positive for me. Would purchase from e-trailer again and will recommend to others.31606

Easy wire hookup. Running the wire to the battery under the vehicle took the most time. You'll need extra wire ties to make sure the wire doesn't sag. Instruction said to run the wire through a grommet in the storage compartment. This will not work if you have dual exhaust. Ran the wire through a grommet just behind the back seat. 12672

Product does what it's supposed to do. Huge pain to run a power wire from the trunk area to the battery up front, but that's not this product's fault. That's what happens when you install a towing set-up on a vehicle that really wasn't designed for it. Only thing this product didn't have enough of was zip-ties. They give you 5 or so, but when you run a power wire under your car, I felt the need to secure it better in certain places, so I used an additional 10 or so of my own. Not a huge deal though as I think zip ties are as crucial to have on hand as duct tape.7304

  • How Do I Set up a 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser with a 7-Way and a Brake Controller
  • I am not aware of a conversion kit that would be necessary for your FJ Cruiser. All you should need is the appropriate brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 part # 90885, and the install kit, part # ETBC7. If your vehicle does not already have a 4 way trailer connector, you will need a T-1 Harness, part # 118405, the one you were looking at. The T-1 connector would tap into your lighting circuits to provide lighting for your trailer. We also have a very good two part vid

  • Where are the 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser Connection Points for Trailer Wiring, # 118405
  • On the 2008 FJ Cruiser, the access points are going to be behind the taillights. The drivers side is the easiest. There is a small panel in the cargo area that you will remove and the taillight assembly will be right behind it. The passenger side requires loosening the trim panels on the passenger side cargo area to gain access to the taillight assembly. If your FJ Cruiser has the optional sub-woofer, it will need to be temporarily removed to gain access to the passenger side taillight assemb

  • Adaping 4-Pole Connector to 7-Way on 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser

If the trailer has electric brakes, you will need a brake controller to actuate them. I would recommend the Tekonsha P2, part # 90885. The P2 is very user friendly and the initial set up is simple. You will need the Brake Controller Install Kit, par

The additional blue wire is for a reverse lockout on your hydraulic surge brakes to deactivate them while the tow vehicle is in reverse.
