Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Chevrolet Aveo

Next we take apart two rubber plugs that in the back end of the trunk here and they pull out with a pair of pliers. Next well install the hitch on the tow loop to hold it in position so we can get the other two bolts in. After we remove the plugs, we install some silicone sealant around the holes to keep the engine exhaust from coming into the cabin and then well put the bolts in. After you get the first bolt in, you may want to put a nut on it to keep the rest of the hitch from moving around while you work on the last one. The last thing that needs to be done is just tighten the bolts up since you have the hitch in final position. Once you have the hitch bolts snugged down, give them their final torquing. That concludes this installation.

Chevrolet Aveo Questions

  • I did some checking and it looks like manual transmission 2005 Chevy Aveos can be flat towed without issue, but the automatic transmission Aveos can not be flat towed. You would have to check your owners manual to see if a tow dolly like a RoadMaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes, part # RM-2000-1 could be used. I attached installation instructions below for you to check out also. If you had a manual transmission you could use a RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar - 5,000 lbs, part...

  • The Thule Passage 2 Bike Carrier, # TH910XT, and the Thule Raceway 2 Bike Rack, # TH9001XT, will fit on a 2004 to 2010 Chevy Aveo 5-door. They both have a weight capacity of 60 lbs. Yakima lists two choices of bike racks available for the 2004 to 2009 Chevy Aveo, but they do not have a fitment for the 2010 model, because the 2010 model uses a spoiler that interferes with the bike rack. The Yakima bike rack available for 2004 to 2009 models is the Yakima KingJoe Pro 2 Bike...

  • According to my research, you should not have any issues flat-towing your 2009 Chevrolet Aveo w/ manual transmission, but it is always best to consult your owners manual or Chevrolet dealer for additional parts and procedures or restrictions on flat-towing your Aveo. To complete your towing setup, you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety chains, lighting, and a supplemental brake system. If your Aveo does not have foglights, you will need Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit,...

  • I have two options for a trailer hitch for your 2004 Chevy Aveo 5 door hatchback. Unfortunately, both of the options require two holes to be drilled in the bumper beam. I have attached a short installation video for an Aveo 5. It is a different year, but the installation is the same so you can see if this is something you would be able to accomplish. If you are wanting the hitch for a hitch mounted accessory such as a bike rack, then I recommend the Draw-Tite # 24741. If...

The Thule CG9 Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH00023050 and the Pewag Sportmatik Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # PWSMX62. • In order to determine the towing capacities of your 2010 Chevy Aveo I would recommend checking the owners manual of your vehicle for that information. It should be listed there under towing information. If your owners manual says not to tow with your vehicle I can not safely recommend you do so. • First you should know that the trailer hitches that fit the 2005 Chevy Aveo are actually Class I trailer hitches. These hitches also have 1-1/4 inch receiver openings like Class II hitches but Class I hitches are rated lower. It is also important in choosing accessories because using a Class II accessory in a Class I hitch could lead to overloading the hitch. Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a...

  • A vehicle specific Base Plate Kit is required to complete the connection between the tow bar system and the towed vehicle. The base plates remain permanently affixed to the vehicle being towed. A 2005 Chevy Aveo would need the part # 3129-1 XL Style Base Plate Kit. You would then choose a tow bar with the features you want that is compatible with the XL style base plates. • The Scooter Carrier you are interested in, part number MSCR can only be used with a hitch that has a 2 inch receiver. The Chevrolet Aveo can only use a Class I hitch, which can only handle 200 lbs of tongue weight, or downward force. • If you are looking for a trunk mount bike rack, the rack I like the most and recommend often is the Thule Raceway 2, # TH9001PRO. This is one of the newer bike racks from Thule. It is very light weight at under 12 pounds, but what I really like about this rack is the ease of which it can be attached and removed.
