Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness. The connection point for the 7-way harness is located behind the rear bumper. The converter plugs into the factory wiring harness in your cargo area or beneath your rear seat. Once you've plugged in the connectors, insert the included fuses and relay into your fuse panel as indicated in the instructions.

Once installation is complete, the 7-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket is included to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 7-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a circuit-protected, battery-powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Video Transcript for Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - C56366 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at CURT T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 7-Way Trailer Connector. This product fits certain years of the Honda Pilot and Honda Ridgeline. To ensure that this is a fit for your vehicle you can use the vehicle fit guide located at etrailer.com. Once installed this is going to provide a seven way blade style trailer connector at the back of your vehicle to power your trailers signal lights. This is compatible with four pull, five pull, and six pull adapters. Adapters are sold separately. The black box on here, on this portion of the harness or kit, this is a tail light converter.

This is going to ensure that your vehicles wiring matches that of your trailers. The power module connects directly to the vehicle battery through the wiring to avoid overloading the vehicles electrical system. It's constructed using surface mount technology for consistent, reliable performance. What that does is it maximizes the trailer light yield and intensity while producing minimal heat, and it ensures superior operation even in rough road conditions. The seven way is a very strong and durable design. Comes with the spring loaded lid that's going to keep dirt and grime away from the terminals when it's not being used.

It's going to come with the mounting bracket and the necessary hardware to get it installed that way it's easily accessible near the hitch of the vehicle. This unit is designed to connect quickly and easily. Comes with detailed installation instructions to help walk you through the whole process step by step. The trailer harness here at the seven way. This plugs directly into the connection point behind a rear bumper. Now the plugs on this kit are custom fit for you vehicle.

They're going to match up perfectly and they're going to snap lock together for a nice, tight secure fit. The converter portion connects in the rear cargo area or beneath the rear seat depending on your application. You'll also need to make your ground connection, that's your white wire with the ring terminal attached to it. You'll want to get that grounded in a suitable grounding location. You can also use the included grounding screw to get that done. Once you have that done you'll want to mount the converter box to a safe out of the way location.

You can do that using the double sided adhesive foam tape provided with the kit. Now once you've plugged in the connectors you'll need to insert the included fuses and relay's into the appropriate locations as indicated in the instructions. Once your installations complete the seven way connector is going to be stowed beneath the vehicle near the hitch. Again it does come with the mounting bracket and the necessary hardware to get that installed and easily accessible when you're ready to make you connection and start towing. It also comes with some cable ties. That way you can secure any excess or slack in your wiring. I do recommend using a small amount of dielectric 00:02:33 grease on all of your electrical connections like the plus on the vehicle and the seven fold connector itself. That grease is specifically designed to help prevent corrosion to the connection points. It is sold separately and available at etrailer.com. When it comes to the maximum amperage for the stop and turn lights we're looking at three amps per circuit. For the tail lights we're looking at six amps per circuit. That's going to do it for today's look at the CURT T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with a 7-Way Trailer Connector.

2009 Honda Pilot

Just started installing today. It was super easy until the step to mount the bracket to the frame. The bracket didn't seem to work with my '09 Pilot. If the connector is positioned in line with the plastic opening as it should be which happens to be angled downward, the metal bracket doesn't sit flush on the frame (See picture). If the bracket is flush on the frame, the lid to the wiring connector cover won't open all the way due to interference with the plastic opening in the vehicle. The bracket needed to be a little longer at the top and have a slight bend to it. I had some scrap pieces of metal that I used to extend the top of the bracket and bent them such that the connector will align with the plastic opening and the metal can be attached to the frame flush. I haven't tested it with a trailer yet but will soon. Overall, a lot more time and swearing than originally planned for the install.

Product arrived quickly and installation went smoothly. Had an issue with Honda fuses which tech support resolve within a few minutes.
Good product and excellent support.
Thanks

It is a very nice product .I had to do a couple adjustment for installation and I had to add 4 extra fuses to make it work. When you put the fuses just take the cover off and you can see behind on the cover what fuses you need .I had to add three 20 amp and one 7 1/2 amp.I added pictures make sure you look at those as well .

2019 Honda Ridgeline

I bought a 2019 Honda Ridgeline and it came with the hitch receptacle but no wiring at all for anything to be able to be towed legally. I looked into etrailer on line and found what sounded like a kit that might work for me. I ordered the c56366 kit and installed it with the help of my wife. It was not supper easy by any stretch but we did it! Finding the wire connection behind the rear seat to plug into took the most time and I did have to call your help line to make sure it was really back there some place. My wife had smaller hands and in time we found it , hooked into it and continued on as the instructions said. All in all we are very pleased with the kit and saved what the dealer wanted $700 for. Your kit works just great and we have towed many trailers since installing it.
Keep up the good products, we bought your tow hitch and ball too.

Yes, after a year with the wire harness it’s been only working out GREAT. I keep thinking about the money we saved and also how the wire kit was missing nothing on parts! I was in the Navy as an electrician and many times just needed some needed connectors that we were short on. All and all could not be happier.

2019 Honda Pilot

I purchased the Curt Model C56366 trailer harness and Reese Model 78118 7-pole to 4-pole adaptor for my 2019 Honda Ridgeline. I also purchased a tube of Loctite Dielectric grease-LT37534. If your trailer sits outside in the weather and uses incandescent light bulbs, put a dab of the Loctite Dielectric grease on the bulb contacts as they can corrode even if your lights are well sealed. The Curt and Reese products are generally well made and installation was easy. However, Curt's instructions were not clear so I recommend reading them carefully. The C56366 kit for a Ridgeline also includes instructions and extra parts for a Pilot, so read BOTH sets of instructions so you know which parts to use or discard depending on your application. Having said all that, after installing my wiring, the brake lights on my trailer would not light. I went back over the installation and found that a wire had pulled out of the Curt wiring harness connector that installs behind the rear seat of the Ridgeline. (this was the hardest part of the installation as there is very limited space to work in and the existing plug-in on the Honda was hidden behind an insulation mat) A call to etrailer resulted in them sending me a replacement for that portion of the harness and the problem was corrected. During the course of this installation I talked to four etrailer tech reps and received friendly, professional help from them all. I will recommend etrailer, Reese, and Curt to fellow trailer owners.

The E trailer install video for my Honda Pilot made my wiring job a breeze. your service is the best. I ordered other products from different companies, call it a small spending spree this past weekend and I ordered your part LAST but it was the very FIRST part delivered. Your prompt customer service is outstanding. I will be recommending your products to everyone, And when I decide to rewire my trailer you guys will be the only place I go for parts and service questions. Signed — an extremely happy customer. 2017 Honda Ridgeline

Little hard for 84 year old to get in those tight places. But I made it, Got everything installed. Put in the fuses, nothing worked, There were still 3 empty spaces in fuse box. I placed the size fuses called for on the fuse box cover in the empty spaces. Behold-checked again. Everything was working. I now have trailer lights. Took my Honda dealer they wanted almost $500 to install the lights. This was much more to my liking. Thank you

Very easy installation as directed. Mounting the bracket for the receptical was quite different than the instructions, with a full size spare tire it did not fit in the space.
Just needed to add longer screws.

Still working as designed, perfectly.

2011 Honda Pilot

This C56366 worked perfectly on my 2010 Honda Pilot. I did worry that the 7 pin connector would fit with a full size spare. It had to be mounted on the outside of the removable cutout right next to the factory hitch. It took some time to get it mounted that way but it needed the clearance to not hit the full size spare. It also took some time to get the bracket for the 7 pin connector mounted. The rest of the installation was easy. Just followed the instructions and also watched the etrailer install videos for the 2010 and 2011 Honda Pilot, there are very helpful tips in those videos. All of the trailer lights are working as well as the 12V aux lead to charge the battery while driving. This kit also includes a fuse for under the hood to power the trailer brake controller if you will be installing one of those.

2016 Honda Pilot

After buying a used 2011 Honda Pilot I called the local dealer inquiring about what I needed to install the tow package as there was already a ball hitch on the vehicle. They told me just wire connection 7 pin round adapter was needed that hooked to an existing connector under the rear bumper. Well after an hour of frustration I finished the install and..... no trailer lights... uggh...
My 16 year old daughter was in the garage with me and she said “ hey dad... watch this!” It was an etrailer video on my exact vehicle for the tow package install. Well needless to say I ordered the kit and it had everything I needed to finish the install which was now very easy after watching the video! The trailer lights work great and I am a completely satisfied etrailer customer ! Oh and by the way, the price I paid the dealer was more expensive than the entire kit from etrailer!

by:

My 2011 Honda Pilot had a hitch but only wiring to the back panel. This kit was the perfect solution. The instructions were easy to follow and the installation went smoothly. I'm glad there were also videos of this so I could watch step by step and replay them. I have pulled a trailer many many times since installing this kit and never had any issues. I am very happy with this product.

by:
2017 Honda Pilot

I bought this wiring kit because the dealer wanted a crazy amount of money to install the factory kit. I was able to install this kit without too much hassle. The included instructions were "pretty good". They were set up for a Honda Pilot and I was installing in a 2017 Ridgeline RTL-T. The Ridgeline is prewired and the kit fit perfectly for the rear bumper installation. The wiring up front was a little tricky. I saw a video that recommended removing all sorts of stuff that I didn't do, because everything I needed to get to was accessible by just removing the rear seat. Installation took about an hour. Given what I know now, I could probably do the installation in about 30 min. Anyone reasonably handy with electrical should be able to do this.

2019 Honda Ridgeline

Thanks very much to etrailer for the great service. Wiring kit arrived on time as stated. One question & I will call also. The package states for Honda Ridgeline 2017-2018. I ordered for a 2019 2wd. Is this kit the right one for my Honda?

Yes, I confirmed with Curt that this wiring harness is the correct harness for your 2019 Honda Ridgeline. The package may need to be reprinted for the year 2019.

by:
2019 Honda Ridgeline

I received the harness and installed it as per your instructions but there seems to be no power in the connector? Any suggestions, I've rechecked my ground and it's good.
There are several relays and fuses left over, could one of them be the problem

There are 3 fuses in total that need to be installed. A 7.5A in the TRL BACKUP slot and a 10A in the TRL E-BRAKE slot. The fuse positions COULD be different in the 2019 model than whats shown in the instructions, but the online copy of the owners manual does not show a fuse diagram, so youll want to look at the lid for the engine compartment fuse box to find those two circuits. Also, be sure to install the 10A fuse in the red fuse holder on the trailer wiring harness.

Honda Pilot

Thanks for shipping my wiring adapter kit right away. I received the right kit for the Honda Pilot as ordered. Everything needed was in the kit. The video of the installation was fantastic. One thing with the instructions sent with kit , there isn’t any mention of the two twenty amp fuses in the front engine compartment but they are shown in video , there are two arrows on printed detail sheet showing empty spaces but it doesn’t say anything about installing them. Thanks

by:
2011 Honda Pilot

Well made product but instructions and mounting bracket are lacking for my 2011 Honda Pilot. Wiring install was simple and straight forward. Mounting bracket was the biggest issue for me. Zip tied the connector to bumper as a temporary measure until I placed a separate order for a better fitting bracket.

by:
2019 Honda Ridgeline

Thank you Carol. I installed the Curt 56366 connector. It was relatively easy for someone without much experience. I have two questions:
1) are there any additional fuses needed other than the two indicated in the instructions for the 2019 Ridgeline? I have seen other configuration online.
2) is there another connector that would already have a 4 pin connector as well, that I can use with the harness connector part, in such a way that I can have the 4pin connector under the car and not as an additional adapter connected to the 7way??????????

by:
2018 Honda Ridgeline

I installed this on my 2018 Ridgeline.

This is an excellent product. Installation is difficult because of limited access under the rear seat. It's nearly impossible to pull out the push-in cable ties (in fact, I failed and just left the existing cable ties in place). It was more difficult to hook up the connector, but do-able. The bracket under the rear bumper, for the connector, gets installed with the provided self-drilling and tapping screws.

In addition to the fuses to be installed in positions 3 and 7 in the fuse box, I had to install 20 amp fuses in positions 9 and 11, and a 7.5 amp fuse in position 6.

by:

Just got through installing wiring and the instructions were pretty straight forward. Took a little longer than anticipated but it could have had a lot to do with me being 70 and don't bend like I used to. Completed project, hooked up trailer and nothing. No lights on trailer anywhere. Was going to retrace my steps this morning and while rereading instructions something jumped out at me. In the very last thing to do was adding a 20AMP fuse in box under hood. I reread it twice more and then I noticed 3 little words "on drivers side'. I had placed fuse in an open spot in the main fuse box on the passenger side. After locating the correct box and installing the fuse, lo and behold my trailer lit up like a Christmas tree. Hopefully it will continue as it should and thanks for getting it to me quicker than expected.

2009 Honda Pilot

First, I am a DYI guy, but know very little about cars. That said, I had no problem installing this device. The written instructions that come with the product are terrible, but the installation video was fantastic with easy to follow steps. The one major annoyance was that you have to bend the mounting bracket in order for it to mount to the trailer hitch apparatus. It was more difficult to bend that I thought it would be.

2004 Freightliner Motorhome Chassis

I ordered this part back in June or July of 2018. I never really tested it because my RV was under renovation. So a few weeks ago (Oct. 2018) I finally get to use my RV and plug it into my truck. Well, the left turn signal and brake light will not work. So I spent three weeks grinding down all the ground connections to the frame, pig tail connections etc. and the lights still don't work. I hired a mobile RV repair person and they narrowed the issue down to my truck and not my camper. So I called etrailer and they told me to send back the bad part and they sent me a new one. The new one was installed today and my camper lights work perfectly now.

by:
2017 Honda Ridgeline

This product fit my 2017 Ridgeline to a "T". The Ridgeline is basically prewired for the C56366 harness. Instructions aren't perfect, but with a little common sense we were able to work through the installation. The instructions could be improved with a clear picture or drawing of each step. The hardest part was finding and freeing the connector behind the rear seat. Honda had fastened the connector high and tight, making it almost impossible to free in order to attach the internal harness. Small hands and arms are a plus. Probably helps if you know what you are doing. 8^) Sure beats paying a couple of hundred bucks for something you can do yourself.

by:
2017 Honda Ridgeline

Product itself rates 5 star but instructions from Curt are not accurate. The Honda plug which connects to Curt controller was not reachable as advertised. Requires a second person to remove seat back and cut away at cardboard and jute insulation behind seat to locate factory plug. Not possible to simply reach in and get to plug. Also takes a second person t reinstall back seat back. Contacted Curt, etrailer and Honda to get better location of factory plug. All stated it's just "right there." But no tech help had ever physically installed it on a Ridgeline and could share details. Advertised 20 min install has turned into 3 hours thus far and still haven't installed external plug and wiring. etrailer assistance was very quick and helpful regarding product; shipping was very fast just not quite what Curt advertises on ease of locating factory plug.
