Installation for Trucks With Pop-Out Rail Caps

pop off rail cap

If you have pop-out rail caps you can install the anchors in seconds. All you have to do is pop the caps off using a flat head screwdriver, insert the anchors into the stake pockets, and tighten them down with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Installation for Trucks Without Pop-Out Rail Caps

Router Bit

If you have truck bed rails with hidden stake pockets that don't have pop-out rail caps, a router and a drill with a 1/2" bit (not included) are required to install the anchors.

Router Bit

The router bit (sold separately) lets you perfectly trim the caps without damaging your truck bed. To install the anchors, drill a 1/2" hole in the center of each rail cap and use the router to make the cuts. The router bit has 4 roller bearings that guide the router around the inner steel pocket to prevent overcutting the surface of your bedrails. Cut around each perimeter several times so that all the plastic residue resulting from the cuts gets trimmed away. Once the caps have been trimmed you can install the anchors.

Router Bit

If you have rear stake pockets with an inner plastic shaft, use a router with the rotary pocket saw bit (sold separately) to remove it.

Video Transcript for Review of BullRing Truck Bed Tie Downs - Raised Fit Retractable Anchor For Stake Pocket - BU73FR

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today we're gonna take a look at these BullRing - Raised Fit - Retractable Tie-Down Anchors for your Truck Bed Stake Pockets. These heavy-duty anchors are going to attach to your truck bed stake pockets. And they're going to give you tie-down points to secure your load. You're gonna work with your S-hook and J-hook connections and these are going to fit various years and versions of the Ford F series, the Dodge Ram Pickups, the GMC Sierras, and the Chevrolet Silverados.

To confirm that these are going to work for your truck, take advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com, input the year make and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will let you know if these tie-down anchors will work for your truck, or if we have something comparable that will work for you. Now while the factory anchor points are inside the bed where it can be hard to reach, these retractable anchor points are going to install in the stake pockets on top of your bed rails. And you're just gonna simply pop the anchor ring up when you want to use it to secure a load. And then when you're done and you don't need these rings anymore, you can just push them down firmly and they're gonna be out of your way, sitting flush with the body of this anchor. So again, let me just show you how easy these are to use and just pull this ring up, pull it up firmly, and that ring is going to secure in place in this position.

And you're not gonna have to worry about that accidentally slipping down when you're using this. It's going to hold in that position until you're done. Then when you want that ring out of the way, and you just push it down, and that's how simple these are going to be to use. Now, this raised fit is going to sit just above your bed rail. And these anchors have a weight capacity of 1,000 pounds.

They're constructed of stainless steel that's going to resist rust and corrosion. And this polished stainless steel plate is gonna provide a really nice, classy look and the installation is going to be quick and easy. It really, for the most part, requires nothing more than a Phillips head screwdriver. So to install these, you're just going to remove any plastic cap that covers your stake pockets. However, if you have a 2009 and newer Ram truck, that will require some rail trimming, a rail cap trimming rather, for proper installation.

And to make that job a little bit easier for you, BullRing does offer some bits to help you with that trimming process of the rail caps on your Ram truck. So on your screen, I am putting our item numbers for the rail cap router bit and the rear pocket saw bit. And if you would like to check those out, just take those item numbers that you see on your screen and put them in the search field of our website here at etrailer.com and it will take you to those tools to help you with making that trimming job just a little bit easier. But after you remove any plastic caps or you do any trimming that needs to be done, you're just gonna use a Phillips screwdriver and loosen the screws here that it's holding the plate to the cover here. And for our purposes, I went ahead and loosened the screws. And as you can see, that plate will now freely drop down. You're not gonna have to worry about this plate coming undone from the bottom of the ring because it is permanently attached. So you're not gonna have to worry about potentially losing this plate or this bracket here in your stake pocket. So holding on to the top cover here, you're just going to guide this anchor into the stake pocket. You might have to do that a little bit of an angle, and then you wanna bring it up and catch that lower bracket on the truck's sheet metal. And once you have done that, you just hold the ring and allow the cover to drop into place and then just replace your screws. And then once you get the screws in, you just start tightening them and you don't wanna over tighten these so hand tight them with hand. Tighten them with your screwdriver is gonna be just fine. If you do happen to notice your plastic rail cap starting to bend or bow, that means that you are making these too tight. So simply hand tighten them and you will be good to go. And that's all you have to do to install these. This is gonna be a, for the most part, a really quick and easy installation. And with these, you're gonna get six tie-down anchors and they do have a lifetime warranty. And I think if you're looking for anchor rings that are gonna be very easily accessible and very easy to use, I think these are gonna be a great option for you to consider. They're gonna be very easy to pop those rings up when you need them and then push them down when you don't. And like I said, for the most part, the installation's gonna be very easy as well. They're very well-built. They feel very heavy-duty and robust. So I think these are gonna be a good option for you to consider if they meet the specs that you're looking for. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..
