Video Transcript for Inno Roof Rack Installation - 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

Hi everyone. It's Evangeline, right here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Inno Roof Rack System with the Inno Square Crossbars, the Inno Feet for Square Crossbars, and the Custom Fit Inno Fit Kit on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. So, this is the Square Roof Rack System from Inno. You have different options for your Chevrolet Traverse. You could get Aero Crossbars, which are that more modern crossbars, or you could get these Square Crossbars.

Some reasons you might like them, is maybe you have older accessories that can only fit around square crossbars, or if you want something lighter, or if you want more overhang and have the ability to do so, you can with square crossbars. You do get an overhang of 2 1/4 inches of overhang from the tower to the endcap. So, this will determine, if you do have other accessories, let's say kayak carriers that require a little bit more overhang, you can very easily upgrade to longer crossbars if needed. The crossbars themselves have a weight capacity of 220 pounds, which is very impressive. But remember, you are limited by whichever is lower of the weight capacities, be it your crossbars, your towers, or your actual roof weight capacity.

In our case here, our Inno Feet for Square Crossbars has a weight capacity of 132 pounds. So, that's kinda being pretty much a limiting factor. Now, this is a lockable system. Meaning once you have these keys, you could just put them right into your towers, and this allows you to loosen or tighten down your towers and just help deter theft of your roof rack. While the Traverse can have raised side rails, or it might also not have raised side rails, in our case here, this is a naked roof, so we do have this custom-fit kit for our roof.

Now, the downside to that is you are limited to a very specific spot on your vehicle to place those towers, which gives you a crossbar spread of 26 inches from this point to that point. And that will be the crossbar spread that you will have to use with whatever accessory you have on there. I am five two, and as you can see, it's kind of a reach to get onto the top of our Chevrolet Traverse, which may be something worth considering with getting more or less overhang. Another thing I recommend adding to your repertoire is maybe you should take a look at the Moki doorstep, which hooks right into your door and gives you a little extra height, which may be useful as you have a roof box, a roof basket, or let's say you're strapping down a kayak. Now, let's talk about roof clearance.

So, first is the clearance from the lower crossbar to the top of your roof. That's gonna be the clearance for your clamps, or if you have skis and snowboards, you wanna see if there's enough space for your bindings before they hit your roof. So, measuring from the roof to the crossbar, it's at about 3 1/4 inches. As for the roof height this adds to your vehicle, it sits at about 4 1/4 inches. The crossbar itself is made of steel, but it is coated with this rubberized material, which is gonna help with scuffs and scratches, but also keeps this system on the lighter side as it's on your booth, but while maintaining its great weight capacity. So, my personal thoughts about our Inno Roof Rack here on our Traverse, is I do like the Aero Style Crossbars, simply because I like to use the more modern accessories that utilize the T-track channels, and things like that. But, I do understand that others still have accessories that work best with the square design on your more traditional crossbars. Also, they do sit a little bit more low profile, and they're on the easier side to throw on, compared to the Aero Crossbars from Inno. So, you have your pros, you have your cons. I personally recommend upgrading to the aero system if you can, but if you need that extra overhang, this is still a good system that will work on your Traverse. So, the install process is kind of involved, but that's what this video is for, right Because, we wanna make sure that you get the correct rear crossbar and the front crossbars in the correct places. You're gonna have three sets of things, which is gonna be your fit kit, and those have different foot pads with different numbers. Then you have your towers, and these are gonna be what's holding your crossbars up in place. And finally, you have your square crossbars. So, first we're gonna set up the fit kit with the tower. Notice how your fit kit has a number underneath the foot pad. So this is four two seven, and that's gonna go on your front crossbar. And then you're gonna have another set, which is four one nine, and those go on the rear crossbars. Since I already installed the rear crossbar, we can install the front crossbar together. So, get your foot pad and just pop it into the tower itself. Once those foot pads are set up and secure, you're then going to set up the fit hooks. So, you may have a lock on the end of your tower, kinda like what I have here, so that has to be unthreaded first. Once that's out, you also have this lock, and that's gonna go to the side as you place your hook in, kinda fit that into place, and then get this lined up as well. And do the same thing on the other tower. With your towers now set up, you can then attach the towers to your crossbar. So, notice where this lock is. If you push that lock down, you can see how the bracket on the top of your tower goes down as well. So, get that lined up and just push that down, because that's gonna be what you'll use to attach your crossbar. Once you have that push down enough, it should slide right onto that crossbar. Now do the same on the other side, and then you can take some measurements. So, you're gonna measure the stay interior dimensions. And what that means, is measuring from one crossbar tower to the other crossbar tower. You're gonna get a specific length. That length is going to be inside your instructions. It's gonna be different for your front and your rear. So for your rear crossbar, which is this, it's going to be 47 1/4 inches long. To also make sure that your towers are in the right spots, Inno gives you the halfway mark instructions as well. So for your rear crossbar, it's gonna be from the center of the crossbar, there should be a marker on your crossbar, all the way to the end of the stay. It's going to be 23 5/8 inches to that point. So measure it and then address it accordingly. And now that we have our tower set to exactly where we want them to be, the next step is to put it onto our vehicle, but first let's take some measurements. So, you're gonna install your towers at a very specific point on your Chevrolet Traverse. So, for your rear tower it's going to be from the seam of your door, 21 3/4 inches to the center bolt of your tower. And then for your front crossbar, it's gonna be four inches from that seam towards the front of your vehicle. So, I have my friend, Tom, here, who's gonna help me out. We're gonna bring this up and over our vehicle, being very careful as we open the door, and then place it four inches away from that door seam. So, once you determined that it is four inches from that front seam, you're gonna then going to lift this hook up, and tighten this bolt down. It's a good amount of thread, so just keep going until it fully secures. Once you feel like you've gotten it tightened enough down, push this in, and then twist the lock to secure it. So, since that hook is custom-fit for your vehicle, once you do have it tightened down, don't be afraid to just slam your door on it, because it fits right in there. Don't forget to put the rubber endcaps onto your square crossbars. And once all four of those are in place, that's it for the install. And that was a look right here at our Inno Square Roof Rack system, here on our 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. My name is Evangeline, and I hope you enjoyed the journey..

Ford Focus

This model is not the most stylish and sleek roof rack but its sturdy and made with quality materials. Easy to set up and its even easier to put on the vehicle and take off the vehicle. I only put the rack on my Ford Focus when I go kayaking. Great bang for buck!

by:

Work exactly as described and after a year, still in great condition.

hyundai Tucson

I am writing this review in the context of an owner of a Yakima roof rack system with round crossbars from a vehicle many vehicles prior to the 2021 Hyundai Tucson on which I just installed an INNO roof rack system with the INSUT Feet, INNO NB137 crossbars and 2 INNO INA391 roof bike racks. The INNO crossbars are rectangular in profile, rather than round, but with a grooved top that mates with the INSUT feet, the crossbars should stay firmly put where they are set in the feet. They do not weigh much, but feel pretty solid given their light weight and relatively thin metal walls. One change I would suggest to INNO is to put a factory mark on the center of the crossbars rather than supply a flimsy little decal for the user to measure and place on the crossbars. I never bothered to try to exactly center the round crossbars on my Yakima system, but it is important, at least on the naked roof of the 2021 Tucson, to properly space the feet from the center of the crossbars. I will probably eventually just put a dab of white touch-up paint to mark the center point.

Fantastic customer service.

Thanks for your help!

Easy to install and very sturdy. Might be more expensive than others on Amazon but trust me spend the money on these.

Pretty bendy, could be a bit more solid. But they do the job

Been a month haven’t received them yet they are in stock but guess we are waiting for one item which it’s in stock date gets pushed back every day. And the company doesn’t let the customer know the date changes or when they will send it.

Good quality rack system, easy to assemble and install, works well, looks good, fair price, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. I appreciate the guidance I received from William B. at the beginning of my search for a roof rack to carry a canoe on my 2015 Honda Civic. Two thumbs up for this purchase.

by:

Easy to install and have worked great so far!

by:

Volkswagen Golf

Works well, has stayed attached with no issues. We've used them (plus the bars) to keep a canoe and a rocket box on the car at different times throughout the year (not at the same time, it's on a tiny golf).

by:

Incredible engineering: does not feel like an aftermarket rack. Easy to take off if necessary. Solid; highly recommend.

by:

My order just arrived this afternoon and I have not yet looked at everything by I am upset over the rails falling out of the box as it is damaged. I will be looking to make sure all parts are contained but so far not thrilled with the condition of the materials as delivered.

by:

Perfection!!!

by:

Perfect fit.

by:

Fast shipping, easy installation!

by:

Worked great! Traveled with a carrier on these racks from Chicago to Seattle. No issues, would buy again!

by:

I have two standup paddle boards that literally live in the racks, and have since day one.
The racks are awesome.

by:

Really great value! No need to spend a lot on Thule. Even those these are square shaped I actually don't hear much road noise. Besides, you're gonna have music playing or riding with the windows down anyway. I would definitely buy these again.

by:

Very noisy, had to take them off when not in use.

by:

Odelia was extremely helpful in helping me choose the right product. I had an end-cap that was missing and she sent me whole package of four. This is the kind of customer support one hopes to receive when deciding to spend a few hundred dollars on a product. I will definitely return to etrailer if I need another car rack for our other car.

by:

I am a fifty-four year old single woman and being able to install these roof racks by myself makes me feel empowered!!
I watched a video emailed with my delivery confirmation of an installation on a similar vehicle all the way through first, and then watched it again as I did the steps myself, pausing when I needed to.
The products appear to be of high quality, were packaged/shipped neatly and it was easy to organize everything for installation. I couldn't be happier!

Yes the Inno Roof Rack system consisting of the 54" bars # INB137, Inno Feet for Square Crossbars # INSUT and the custom fit kit # INK684 will fit the 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback. The etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier also fits this roof rack. It is not just as economical choice. The fold down feature is normally found in higher end carriers and I really like the included straps and anchors. This makes securing your Pelican Trailblazer 100 NXT much easier on your vehicle. SportRack semi-custom roof rack # SR1002 is a fit for the 2008 Hyundai Elantra sedan. No other parts are needed for this roof rack. Please note that since this is a semi-custom fit it will not have the best fit on the vehicle; not like a true custom fit roof rack would. A true custom fit rack will cost a little more but will fit better and install much easier. If you are interested the most economical custom rack is from Inno using the following parts: Crossbars # INB127 Feet # INSUT Fit...

  • Recommended 2-Bike Rack for 2012 MK6 Golf R Model
I have a couple of solutions for you, but unfortunately the center rear exhaust prevents the installation of a typical tow hitch on the VW Golf R model. One option is to go with a trunk mounted bike rack like the Thule Passage 2-Bike Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # TH910XT that has the anti-sway cradles to secure your bikes. I also recommend using the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Women's, Children's, and Alternative Frame Bikes # 64005 to create that top frame rail...

I've included a video of the installation on a 2014 Passat. Pretty straight forward but be sure to watch the video before you attempt the install.

Most kayak carriers require a minimum crossbar spread of 24 inches and this roof rack will have a crossbar spread of 28 inches once it is installed. For a rack that is very similar to the Thule square bar racks we have the Inno part # INB127, # INSUT, and # INK593 that fits your vehicle. This rack actually has the exact same crossbar dimensions as the Thule square bars but at a much better price.

  • Recommendation for Carrying 3 Bikes on 2015 Honda Fit
Even though all 3 bike cannot be carried on the hitch, there are a couple of ways to carry 3 bikes on your 2015 Honda Fit without having to put the 3rd bike in the car. One option is to go with a 3-bike trunk mount carrier, like the Thule Gateway XT3-Bike Rack # TH9007XT. • Roof Rack Recommendation for Carrying a Kayak- 2019 Ford Escape with Bare Roof
I'd highly recommend an Inno rack system for your vehicle. Inno provides a super-high quality product without the higher price tag seen with other brands that might be more universally well known. High value and top quality. Given the fact that you expressed an interest in transporting a kayak, using a through-bar system makes it easier for one person to get the kayak up on the vehicle roof. Pick up one end, place against the crossbar where it extends past the roof rack foot, then you...

Since you do not have anywhere to run the rear strap from a cargo bag designed for naked roofs, I do reocmmend installing a roof rack and using either a bag or cargo box attached to the rack. The most economical rack for your 2005 Mini Cooper is a Yakima rack made of the following parts: CrossBars # INB117 Short roof adapter # INJK Custom Fit Kit # INK118 Feet # INSUT With this rack installed you could then use a cargo bag or box secured to the crossbars. • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2013 Toyota Camry
The Sportrack Semi Custom Rack part # SR1002 is a fit for your 2013 Toyota Camry, but since this is a semi-custom rack it wouldn't be my recommendation. Instead I would recommend a custom rack by Inno that consists of part numbers # INB127, # INSUT, and # INK872. Semi-custom racks are notorious for not fitting well. If you only plan on using the rack maybe once or twice total the Sportrack would do the trick. If the rack will see regular use I would strongly recommend going with the Inno.

The best value roof rack we have for your 2016 Ford Fiesta that has a naked roof is the Inno rack part numbers # INB127, # INSUT, and # INK872. This will fit MUCH better than the Sportrack you tried as it is a custom fit rack and what you tried is only semi-custom and is a design that would most likely at least partially transfer to a similar future vehicle. Then for a 2 kayak carrier the Thule Compass part # TH890000 fits this rack and would be an easy way to carry your kayaks. It's padded...

  • Recommended Roof Rack for a 2008 Kia Sorento to Carry a Kayak
The SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack # SR1098 will be able to carry your 45 lb. Kayak and will fit a 3' roof. However, I do not recommend the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for your 2008 Kia Sorento as a semi-custom roof rack will not fit your vehicle as well as a custom roof rack. For a load like a kayak we find that a custom fit rack will provide a much more secure foundation. If you have factory side rails that run front to back, I recommend the Inno Square Crossbars consisting of...

  • Recommended Roof Rack And Paddleboard Carrier For 2015 Lexus NX 300h With Naked Roof
All three of the Inno roof racks will work well on your 2015 Lexus. The difference between the roof racks are the crossbars and feet. Our least expensive roof rack features square crossbars, while the other two roof racks have aerodynamic bars. All three roof racks have the same weight capacity at 140 lbs.
