Today we are going to install part number 12490 from Curt. And we are going to install this hitch on a 2008 Scion XB. First we will show you how this hitch installs on the vehicle. It is going to install on these three holes that are existing in the frame right now, and they are threaded. On some older vehicles, you may have to clean those out with a wire brush and some high lubricant - or, in worst-case scenario, a thread tap. Also what we are going to have to do is take down our exhaust. Spray down this hanger here with some lubricant and then slide it off. And you can tell we have already did spray a little bit of that. That will lower the muffler out of our way so we can get our work done. And then on the drivers side, this tie-down bracket will have to come off and stay off. And the hitch will go back into its place. What you want to do next is go ahead and check the holes. Run a a bolt in there. Make sure they thread in there okay. Like I said, if it is dirty, you may have to take a few steps and clean them out. And once you get everything started and, you know, make sure it looks good and clean, then you can go ahead and install your hitch at this point.
Next we can go ahead and install our hitch. And it is kind of a wide hitch, so it might be a good idea to have an extra set of hands installing it. All right, we are going to just get one started one on each side, just get it going. All right, when you are on the other side, you have to sneak it by this part of the plastic balance here. Once you do that, then the hitch will slide in position. Okay, with the hitch secured, there are about two bolts and then you can go ahead and install the rest of it. Now we installed these bolts loosely so we can still maneuver the hitch left and right and center it on the frame. Once you have it centered the way you want it, then go ahead and snug down the bolts. At this point, we can go ahead and torque down our bolts, at the torque specified in the instructions. All right, we will go ahead and put our exhaust back together. And that covers it for part number 12490 from Curt on our 2008 Scion XB.
