Review of RockyMounts Truck Bed Bike Racks RKY1087

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Rockymounts truck bed bike rack. This is going to let you transport one bike with a 12mm or 15mm through axle. It's going to come with a total of 3 interchangeable axle sleeves for bikes with 12mm, 15mm, and boost 15mm axles. This is designed to attach directly to your truck bed or trailer. It does not include the mounting hardware, but it has the mount holes located here at the base. These holes will accept quarter inch and 6mm bolts.

If we take a measurement, the distance that we have between those mount holes going center on center, you can see that it's going to measure about 3 and 3 quarter inches. The hot rod's also going to contain a large center opening, so you have all the space right here in the middle. It makes it very easy for use of a cable lock. A cable lock is recommended to deter theft of your bike. It is sold separately.

If you're interested in one, or need one, you find them right here at etrailer.com.The Hot Rod's going to be constructed from a strong, non corrosive cast aluminum construction. It's going to feature a black, anodized finish. When it comes to the carrying capacity, we're looking at a one bike capacity with a weight capacity of up to 35 pounds, so you can carry one bike with this unit, and you don't want to exceed the 35 pound weight capacity. This is going to be great for truck beds, vans, SUVs, trailers, and custom applications. Again, it's going to include the axle sleeve to accommodate a 12 x 100, 15 x 100, and 15 x 110 through axles.

A few measurements I want to go over with you real quick. We're going to take a look at the base dimensions starting with the overall length of the unit, measuring from edge to edge, is going to be about 4 and a half inches. The overall width of the unit, that's going to measure, it looks to be about one and 5/8s of an inch here at the base. And if we take a look at the height, we're looking at a measurement of about 3 and one quarter inch tall. Very simple installation process. You got the mount holes down here that can be used as a template, so you place this onto the mounting surface, mark those mount holes, and then you'll need to drill out the holes and install your hardware.

Again, your hardware is sold separately, that's not included. After you get this mounted, and determine the right axle sleeve for your bike, you'd go ahead and install the sleeve back into the rack. It's got two set screws right here, and it's going to come with the included allen tool, that way you can interchange between each sleeve very quickly and easily. So go ahead and place the sleeve back into the rack, and tighten with the screws, and then you would align the fork of your bike with the hot rod axle, and then reinstall the three axle skewer to secure the bike to the rack. Rockymounts is also going to cover this product with a limited lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the Rockymounts Hot Rod truck bed bike rack.
