Published 10/29/2014

Question:

Just picked up a used 16foot dual axle travel trailer. Pulling with a F-150 5.6L 4x4 02. What trailer leveling hitch with sway control would you recommend? Also need a brake controller added to the truck for the rv. What would you recommend on that also? Dont need top of line just what works. And Im installing both.Thanks.

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

With that information you can determine what would be the correct system to use. I attached a link to a page that has all of the systems we have to the right. You will want to select your tongue weight from the filters on the left side of the page and the correct systems will be listed. I like the Strait Line series systems since they have the only sway control on the market that actively works to stop sway before it starts.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. If you have a factory 7-way at the rear of your vehicle all you would need to install this controller would be the harness part # 3035-P. For more information on how to install the brake controller and if you have a different trailer connector at the rear of your truck check out the FAQ article I attached to the right.
