Weight Distribution With Sway Control Recommendation For 28 Foot RV
Updated 09/09/2014 | Published 09/05/2014 >
Question:
Which weight distribution/anti-sway system is the least pain in the butt to use/hookup for a 10,000# 28foot RV? Those chains and all look like quite the pain. If its a project to connect every time I may not use it like I should.

When considering a weight distribution system you need to know 2 important things. You need to know the tongue weight and the gross trailer weight. I have attached a helpful article that explains how to determine tongue weight and another that explains weight distribution in detail.
Tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded trailer in its ready-to-tow condition added to the weight of any cargo you carry behind the rear axle of your towing vehicle. Normally, the tongue weight will be between 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight so your tongue weight could be between 1,000 and 1,500 lbs.
If you find your tongue weight is between 1,000 and 1,500 lbs, I recommend a system like the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution w Sway Control, part # RP66561. This is a trunnion bar system and does not use chains. This system uses a clamp-on bracket that will fit trailers up to 2-1/2 inches wide. It has a towing capacity of 14,000 lbs and can handle tongue weight between 700 and 1,400 lbs.
This system also features friction pads in the spring bar hangers that prevent trailer sway caused by wind or curving roads. This system is designed to work with hitches that have a 2 inch receiver opening.
If you find that your tongue weight or the weight of your trailer do not match the system I recommended, let me know and I will be glad to help make some other recommendations that will work for you.
