Hitch-Mount 3-Bike Rack Recommendation for 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe

Updated 08/12/2014 | Published 08/10/2014

Question:

Hi, I have a 2009 Chevy Tahoe and was wanting to haul my mountain bike and my sons 20 inch bike. I usually only haul those two but would like to have the option to haul a third mens mountain bike. I have used a Hollywood bike rack and cant manage to get my sons bike to fit. Can you recommend a bike hitch rack for a 2 inch that would be around the $200 range?

In order to have 3-bike carrying capacity on a hitch-mount rack for your 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe you will be best served by a hanging-style carrier. This type of rack will also be friendlier to your preferred price point.

The link provided will show you all 3-bike hanging-style carriers that will fit the 2-inch hitch on your Tahoe.

A popular choice is the Swagman, part # S63365. This rack folds up when not loaded with bikes and also tilts back to allow better rear-of-vehicle access. If you wish, you can add a hitch lock # e98882 to secure the rack to your hitch.

If any of the bikes lacks a horizontal top frame tube as found on a typical man's bike you might consider an adapter bar like the Swagman Easy-Out # 64005 which connects between the seat and handlebar posts of such bikes to provide a level mounting surface to mate with the carrier's arms. The adapter bar will help keep the bike level for better ground clearance.

The two linked articles will help you consider the best options for your vehicle and bikes.
