Best Ball Mount for Reducing Bouncing and Jerking When Towing a Utility Trailer
Published 11/05/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 and pull a 16 foot utility trailer with a zero turn mower and other landscaping equipment. Every time I hit a rough patch of road I can feel the trailer jerking the truck around. Is there a hitch that would help smooth things out without having to add suspension parts to the trailer?

Hey Kevin!
The Shocker Impact Cushion Ball Mount # SHK68XV would be a great option for what you're describing. It uses two rubber bump cushions to absorb road shock and reduce that front-to-back jerking (chucking) you feel when towing.
Unlike a standard solid ball mount, the cushioning allows some controlled movement between your truck and trailer, which helps take the edge off bumps, potholes, and rough pavement. There's also no airbag to inflate or maintain.
It fits a 2" receiver, comes with a 2" hitch ball, and provides up to 3" of drop or 5" of rise. Just make sure your trailer uses a 2" coupler and that the weight and height requirements match your setup.
Do you know approximately how much your trailer weighs when it's loaded with equipment?
