Will the ICON Gooseneck Lock AL85QF Protect My Trailer From Theft While Parked Outside?
Published 10/31/2026 >
Question:
I have a gooseneck equipment trailer with a 3 inch RAM coupler that I leave parked at job sites during the week. Ive been using a basic coupler lock, but Im looking for something a little more substantial since the trailer sometimes sits unattended overnight. I came across the ICON lock AL85QF and wondered what makes it harder to cut or pry off compared to a regular trailer lock. Also, will leaving it outside in the rain and mud cause the locking mechanism to seize up?

Hey Travis, the ICON Gooseneck Lock # AL85QF is exactly what I'd recommend for securing your equipment trailer at a job site! It's specifically designed for 3 inch RAM gooseneck couplers, and this thing is seriously tough. It has a heavy duty cast steel body with patented radial fins that make it incredibly difficult to get cutting or prying tools into position. It also uses a high security disc detainer lock cylinder that's designed to resist picking and tampering. We actually had a guy from ICON come out to our office and demonstrate just how tough these locks are, and he couldn't even get through one with a chainsaw! That really puts into perspective how much resistance this lock is designed to provide. No lock is completely theft proof, but this one is built to make a thief's job extremely difficult.
And as far as leaving it outside, that's another area where the ICON really shines. It's built for outdoor conditions with corrosion resistant coatings, stainless steel components, and protective seals that help keep rain, mud, and dirt out of the locking mechanism. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a trailer that spends most of its time outdoors. At 27.3 lbs, it's a substantial lock, but installation is simple since it slides right over your coupler and locks into place. As long as you've got that 3 inch RAM coupler, you're good to go.
Do you usually leave your trailer at the same job site for several days, or are you moving it around pretty regularly?
