Will Heartland Big Horn Travel Trailer Clear The Cab When Turning With F250 Short Bed And Helux ?

Question:
Looking at a Heartland Big Horn With the Rhino Helux 5th wheel. I will be pulling it with a F250 short box, is there gonna be enough room for clearance or should a stick with the safe bet and stay use a slide hitch?

Hey Scot,
The good news is that Heartland designed the Bighorn with a tapered front cap specifically to improve turning clearance with short-bed trucks. They've advertised up to an 88-degree turning radius without needing a sliding hitch, so you will likely be able to use a standard fifth-wheel hitch with your F-250 and the 6-3/4' bed.
The Curt Helux # C63RJ is one of our Rhino-compatible options, and its shock-absorbing design helps reduce chucking and road shock. The Helux itself doesn't provide additional turning clearance, though.
We can get a good idea of your clearance using this formula:
Distance from fifth-wheel hitch kingpin location to truck cab) - (Half the trailer's front width) = Clearance
Ideally, you want at least 4" remaining for a 90-degree turn. Since the Bighorn has tapered corners, this should be just fine but it never hurts to verify.
