Bike Rack/Cargo Carrier Recommendation with Swing Away Hitch Adapter
Updated 10/29/2026 | Published 10/28/2026 >
Question:
I have a 2026 ford transit awd passenger wagon with the heavy towing package. I believe my hitch tongue weight is 450 lbs but it isnt listed on the vehicle. I want a swing away with a cargo and or bike carrier. So I can open the rear door. Can you make a recommendation? Its is a very low hitch so that needs to be factored in. Also, is it true I need to reduce my tongue weight by half? That means if I understand, the weight of everything needs to be under 225 lbs, swing away, basket and gear. Thank you

Hey Ryan, we have just what you are looking for with the Yakima EXO Swing Away 2 bike rack and enclosed cargo carrier part # Y34ZR. This has a 2 bike rack, an enclosed cargo carrier, and an integrated swing away pivot shank that because it's not a separate adapter it does not cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. What kind of bikes do you have and about how much cargo were you looking to carry in a carrier?

That's great. How does this address the dragging of the low hanging cargo carrier on a transit?
