Will Kodiak 11" Disc Brakes Fit My 12K Trailer Axles With Dual Wheels?

Published 10/28/2026

Question:

I have a heavy-duty equipment trailer with 12,000-lb axles and 16inch dual wheels. Im looking to upgrade from drum brakes to disc brakes, but Im having trouble finding a kit that works with my dually setup. Will the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit KD598FR fit, or is it only designed for trailers with single wheels?

Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out. Yes, the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # KD598FR is designed for heavy-duty trailers with 10,000-lb to 12,000-lb axles, and the 11" rotor configuration is compatible with 16" dual wheels and 17-1/2" single wheels. The kit uses an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern and is designed for hubs with 5/8" wheel studs and a 7-bolt brake mounting flange. Those are the important specifications to match when converting your trailer from drum brakes to hydraulic disc brakes. You will definitely want to check your trailer and make sure all that matches up on your end.

One thing I really like about these Kodiak brakes is how well they're suited for heavy towing, especially when you're hauling equipment through hills or dealing with long downhill grades. The disc brakes dissipate heat more effectively than drum brakes, helping reduce brake fade and maintain consistent stopping power. You also get Gal-Dex-coated rotors and E-coated calipers for corrosion resistance. Since you're converting from electric drums, you'll also need an electric-over-hydraulic actuator for disc brakes like part # DH94FR, hydraulic brake lines, and a compatible brake controller to operate the new brakes.

What brake controller are you using currently?
