Is it possible and what is the cost of getting a e54VV with a swing away arm as the mount? Thanks.

Hi Michael!

It's definitely possible to add a swing away arm to the 24x60 etrailer Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Steel - 440 lbs # e54VV. I have two options listed below that will allow you to do this (as well as their carrying capacities):

Swagman Swivel Hitch Extender # S86SR - 300 pound capacity
Kuat Pivot XD Swing-Away Hitch Extender # KU37KR - 350 pound capacity

There are a couple things to keep in mind though. First, the # e54VV carrier all put together will weigh 106 pounds, so that will need to be subtracted from the weight capacity of the swing arm adapter.

Next, using an adapter like this will lower the vehicles tongue weight capacity by 50%. This one is important as if your vehicle can handle 500 pounds of tongue weight (as an example), using one of these will turn that into 250 pounds of capacity and then the 106 pounds of carrier will also need to be subtracted as well as the weight of the adapter (the Swagman weighs 47 pounds and the Kuat weighs 68 pounds). This mean you aren't going to have a lot of weight you can put in the carrier.

The last thing is going to be movement. Both of these adapters (as well as the carrier) come with anti-rattle devices, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on as there is potentially going to be a lit of weight behind you.

So long story short, yes it is possible. However, I don't think I recommend doing so. As of right now, we are not developing a swing arm for this carrier, but I will mention it to our Product Development Team to see if it's something they can look at producing in the future.

I'm looking for this type of set up for my 2021 Ford Transit Connect XLT 350. It will mainly carry misc stuff, but the heaviest thing is a portable generator. 50 to 60 lbs. Other stuff will be like deflated paddle boards.
