Best Shock-Absorbing Hitch for a 2024 Ford F-250 Towing an Enclosed Car Trailer

Published 10/20/2026

Question:

Ive got a 2024 F250 with the factory 2-1/2 inch receiver and pull a 24 foot enclosed car trailer to shows several times a year. Some of these highways are pretty rough and Id like to find something that cushions the trailer instead of feeling every bump through the truck. What kind of hitch would you recommend?

Hey Mike!

I recommend the Air Safe Shock Absorbing Ball Mount # AS45FR for your F-250. It fits your factory 2-1/2" receiver and uses a heavy-duty air bag to cushion the connection between your truck and trailer, reducing the harsh jolts you feel over bumps and rough pavement.

It's rated for 14,000 lbs of towing and 1,050 lbs of tongue weight, and includes a 2-5/16" ball with an adjustable bracket that provides up to 2-1/2" of drop or 5-1/4" of rise.

If you're also using a weight distribution hitch, you can add the Air Safe Weight Distribution Bracket # AS88FR, which works with most traditional weight distribution systems that use a 2" wide mounting channel.

Do you know approximately how much your trailer weighs with the car loaded?
