Can Thule ReVert Use a Swing Away Hitch Adapter

Updated 10/17/2026 | Published 10/13/2026

Question:

I'm looking at the four-bike Thule ReVert for our pickup. Can we add the Thule Access so I can still use the tailgate with the bikes loaded? We usually bring four mountain bikes weighing around 30 pounds each and take gravel and service roads to the trailheads. I noticed there was a note about that. Thanks.

Hey Eric! Yes, the Thule Access Swing Away Hitch Adapter is compatible with the Thule ReVert 4 Bike Rack # TH73VA. This will let you swing the loaded rack aside for tailgate access instead of relying on the rack's tilt feature. We have the Thule Access Swing Away Hitch Adapter - Passenger Side # TH34FR33PN or Driver Side # TH34FR53PN available. Both versions open 100 degrees and lock in place.

The ReVert weighs about 72 lbs, so the rack and your four 30 lb bikes will total about 192 lbs, below the Access's 250 lb limit. You'll need a Class III 2" hitch with at least a 500 lb tongue weight capacity, probably not an issue if you have a larger truck. Gravel roads, forest service roads, and access roads are within Thule's intended use. Other off-road use isn't covered by Thule's warranty, so this isn't unrestricted approval for rough trails.

What trail are you headed to once you get everything set up with the ReVert and Access?

We're heading out to Bentonville, Arkansas for some mountain biking. Being able to open the tailgate without unloading all four bikes will be a huge improvement.

@Eric Bentonville is a great place for mountain biking! The Thule Access will definitely make things easier when you're getting gear in and out of the truck between rides. Have a great trip!
