Is the 13.5K Furrion Chill Cube Better Than the Furrion Chill HE

Updated 10/12/2026 | Published 10/05/2026

Question:

Our current 13,500 BTU air conditioner has enough cooling for our travel trailer. I'm replacing it and trying to decide between another Chill HE and the new 13.5K Chill Cube. What would make you choose the Cube?

Hey Evan! Since 13,500 Btu already meets your needs, I would choose the Chill Cube for its variable-speed operation and lower listed cooling current. The Cube is rated at 8.7 amps, compared with 11.5 amps for the current 13.5K Chill HE R32. The HE has a fixed-speed compressor, while the Cube adjusts its output as conditions change. You can choose from the following based on color:

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC System - 13.5K Btu - Ducted/Non-Ducted - White # FR639YV

-Furrion Chill Cube RV AC System - 13.5K Btu - Ducted/Non-Ducted - Black # FR739YV

The main reason to make the upgrade is how the system operates, not an increase in cooling capacity. Both are still 13,500 Btu air conditioners. You will have greater efficiency, a lower power draw, and quieter operation overall compared to what you have now.

What kind of travel trailer do you have?

We have a 2022 Grand Design Imagine. Would the lower power draw make it easier to run the Chill Cube with a smaller generator? We do some camping without hookups.

@Evan yes, that's another advantage of the Chill Cube. The variable-speed compressor ramps up gradually instead of drawing a large surge of power every time it starts. Combined with the lower running amperage, this makes it easier to operate with a smaller generator. You'll still need to account for your other electrical loads, but you won't need the same startup capacity as a traditional fixed-speed AC.
