Does the NOCO GENPRO Turn On Automatically When Plugged In?

Updated 10/06/2026 | Published 10/02/2026

Question:

I’ve installed this on my boat. When connected to the electricity/wall outlet, and the battery, will it turn on automatically? Will the battery tender detect the battery status and charge when needed without manually pressing the power button?

Hey Michael, thanks for reaching out. Yes. Once you initially select the correct battery mode on the NOCO GENPRO # NOC44FR, it remembers that setting with its Auto-Memory feature. After that, whenever the charger is connected to the battery and plugged into shore power, it automatically monitors the battery and charges or maintains it as needed. You do not need to press the power/mode button every time. NOCO

Once the battery reaches full charge, the NOCO automatically switches into maintenance mode and can remain connected indefinitely without overcharging the battery. The main exception is a battery discharged below the charger's normal detection threshold; that may require manually using Force Mode.

Where do you usually keep the boat? Plugged at the slip or on a trailer?

The NOCO, once plugged into a 100V AC connection and the charger is connected to the battery and is 'ON' and the lights are on and so long charger is left connected t the AC power and the battery, it stays 'in a charging mode then cycle to a maintenance mode' but will maintain a charge into the battery as needed. I use them on my tractor, mowers, ClubCar ATV, etc and never have had a problem with over charging and battery life is extended almost indefinitely. I do use AGM batteries in all of my applications for improved longevity and starting without fearing a froen battery. Most of my batteries last 6-8 years and some longer depending on duty cycles. AGM batteries for me are part of a effective and efficicent battery power program especially when coupled to the NOCO smart battery chargers. I even use them in our business in industrial and commercial applications with great success, I cannot ever recall an issue with the NOCO chargers, some are plugged in almost continually excepyt when the equipment is 'in service'.
