Running Boards With a Lower Step for Chevy Silverado 2500 HD

Hi Sharon, those newer Silverado 2500 HD trucks sit pretty high, so I completely understand why the factory running boards aren't giving you the lower step you need. The Westin HDX bars with drop steps are one option that would get you lower than a traditional running board. For example, # W49XQ fits the 2026 Silverado 2500 Double Cab, but I wouldn't recommend it if that 12 inch maximum step height is something you absolutely need. The drop steps help, but they aren't going to get the step all the way down to 12 inches from the ground.

For that low of a step, I would go with a power retractable running board. The Westin Pro E Power Motorized Running Boards # W69EC are available for the Crew Cab, while # W49EC fits the Double Cab. Instead of having a fixed step hanging down all the time, these automatically lower when you open the door to give you a much easier step into the truck, then retract back against the body when you close the door. That's going to be the direction I'd go rather than trying to make a fixed nerf bar hang unusually low.

The Pro E boards give you a wide 6 inch stepping surface with raised tread for traction, and they also have integrated LED lighting so you can see the step better at night. I especially like the retractable design for what you're trying to accomplish because you get that lower step when you're getting in and out without permanently giving up a bunch of ground clearance while you're driving.

Do you have the Crew Cab with four full size doors or the Double Cab with the smaller rear doors?
