How Does Striker Plate of RV Designer Door Latch Without Lock Look

Question:

We have a 1978 starmate and the door latch no longer stays latched. We have tried the JR replacement but the striker is too short. It’s not long enough to latch onto the door frame. How does the striker plate work?

Hey Angelique, I attached a picture that shows how the door latch and the striker plate get installed and work together. It's a little hard to visualize at first but the striker plate is number 5 in the picture.
