What Material Is The Thomas Payne Dual Reclining RV Loveseat Made Of?
Published 06/10/2026 >
Question:
Is this made of the same bonded leatherinch as other Thomas Payne RV furniture in the last decade or so? Thats kind of a vital piece of information because if so, it will inevitably start to bubble and peal...2.5yrs is the longest Ive had one last I own a camper rental business and in spite of meticulous care, bonded leather will fail, soon. Im surprised theres not a class action lawsuit.

Hey Josh, thanks for reaching out. That's a fair question, especially coming from someone running a rental fleet.
The Thomas Payne Dual Reclining RV Loveseat # TP98KR is not bonded leather, which is the good news. Thomas Payne has moved away from the old bonded leather material that developed the peeling and bubbling reputation years ago. The # TP98KR uses a PolyHyde vinyl upholstery, which is a synthetic RV furniture material designed to be more durable and easier to clean than bonded leather.
That said, I'd be careful not to confuse "not bonded leather" with "indestructible." PolyHyde has generally held up much better than the old bonded leather furniture, but it's still a vinyl product exposed to UV, temperature swings, body oils, and heavy use. In a rental environment, I'd expect it to outlast the old bonded leather by a pretty wide margin, but any RV furniture that's getting constant turnover and use is eventually going to show wear.
If you've been burned by the old Thomas Payne bonded leather furniture, I don't think you're looking at a repeat of that specific failure with the # TP98KR. The widespread peeling issue was one of the main reasons the industry moved toward materials like PolyHyde in the first place.
How heavily are the campers used each season, weekend rentals or near full-time occupancy?
