Expert Reply:
Depends on the amperage draw of your trailer running lights and what the license plate light circuit or running light circuit of your 2009 Honda Pilot is rated for. If the taillight circuit of your Pilot can handle the additional draw of your trailer running lights you might be okay for a temporary situation like getting back home so that you can fix it. But I would not recommend this as a permanent solution as you could blow some fuses or damage wiring.
You might first check the trailer wiring fuses of your vehicle to see if maybe you just need to replace a fuse. Or you can check all the connections of the trailer connector to see if there's maybe a wire that's loose or shorting out.
I attached an FAQ on troubleshooting 4-way installs for you to check out also.
