Will Pullrite ISR Fifth Wheel Hitch with OEM Puck Kit Adapter Allow for Movement/Chucking

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 01/14/2026

Question:

I recently bought the adapter for a F450 to convert the puck system to ISR for my SuperLite hitch that was used in my previous truck. The part works great and made the difference. I just towed with it for 1100 miles and have noticed increased hitch noise than the previous set up. Im convinced it is the play between the tabs from the superlite and the slots on the reese adapter. Is there any product that could tighten up those connections points to reduce the noise. And possible extra wear. Thanks!

Hey Keith, I wish there was a way to tighten up the clearances between your Ford rail kit adapter part # RP30156 and your hitch but there just isn't a way to do that. The problem is that when you add more parts to a setup like adding the adapter you end up adding more potential movement which then translates into more noise.

It's probably not the answer you are looking for but the most ideal solution would be a hitch that fits the pucks directly like the Pullrite OEX SuperLite part # PUL89ZR. This would be a direct fit to the pucks and would allow for minimal movement. You could probably sell the hitch and rail kit you have now second hand to offset some of the cost too.

Hey Keith, how did things go after you towed more with the Reese adapter and SuperLite hitch setup? Did the extra noise stay about the same or get any better over time? Your update could help others comparing the adapter to a direct-fit hitch.

@JamesonC I haven't been able to pull more lately. Managed to be in the north east during the record snow storm so I won't be leaving soon. I assume the noise will continue, just die to the play between the adapter and the hitch. It would make sense that a direct fit would be a tighter connection. I'm not worried about excessive wear, but long term use may show some chipping on the paint of the products. Sorry I'm not more helpful. Happy travels!

@KeithC we got a lot of snow too! Probably not as much as you though. The noise will probably continue like you said though. I wouldn't anticipate any long term issues though.
