Can I Use Quick Connect-Ease To Disconnect Onboard Charger From Batteries?

Question:

Can I use a Connect-Ease kit to quickly disconnect my onboard charger from my batteries, or are these only for powering trolling motors?

Alex, that’s a really common question. While these kits are popular for trolling motors, they work just as well for chargers. The Game Changer kits - like the # CE26RR 24V and # CE88RR 36V - include integrated charging leads, so your charger can stay connected without rewiring every time you remove a battery.

Even the larger-gauge leads can technically be used for charging as well, since they’re built for heavy-duty power connections. The big advantage is that everything disconnects cleanly with a plug. You could also just use # CE66RR on every battery you have. Just keep in mind that the batteries won't be connected, and would be going to an individual charge circuit, if that's how you normally charge them. Just let me know what charger and battery setup you have.

Would this still be safe if the boat sits outside and gets some rain?

@Alex Good question, Tom. Yes, these connectors are made with marine-grade wiring and sealed connections, so they’re built to handle moisture and normal outdoor conditions. They are also salt water rated. That being said, they aren't designed to be submerged or anything like that, but they won't be ruined by a little splash here and there since they are specifically for applications on boats etc.
