Hello Rex, thanks for reaching out. The red light flashing on the Tekonsha POD Trailer Brake Controller # TK55HR means there is an issue with the trailer brake output circuit. It is a bit odd to see this when a custom harness is used. It either means the output circuit is not properly connected, the trailer is not connected, or the ground connection is poor.

The first step is to check that the brake controller ground and the ground on the 7-way plug is properly grounded. Also make sure the controller is getting good power. A multimeter will help a lot with troubleshooting this.

If the controller if not detecting the trailer, it could mean there is rust or debris on your trailer connector. You could try cleaning or replacing to see if that resolves the issue. This is the most common cause of the issue you are describing.

If there is a short of an issue with the blue wire (brake output circuit) it will also cause the brake controller to flash red. You want to check to make sure the blue wire at the back of the brake controller is not loose.

If all of that checks out and it still isn't working, it could mean the controller is shot and needs to be replaced.

Hey Rex, did checking the grounds and cleaning the trailer connector get your Tekonsha POD working with your GX 460? Knowing what fixed the “no brake connection” message could really help others running into the same issue.

The plug and play connector from Lexus was misswired. The 12v and blue brake wire were swapped.

@RexB Oh wow I would not have expected the OEM connector to be miswired but that certainly does explain the issue. Thanks for taking the time to share. Feel free to come back if you ever need anything else!
