Do the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Settings Need to be Reconfigured Once it Has Been Disconnected?

Question:
Hi... I have a couple of questions about the Tekonsha prodigy rf wireless brake controller. Once the controller is paired/configured to the vehicle and trailer, does it remember the configuration when the trailer is disconnected? Or does it have to be configured each time you connect the trailer? Is the controller configuration specific to one vehicle? Or can it be configured for more than one vehicle? For example, I have two tow vehicles... a truck and an SUV. Can it be configured for both vehicles and work with whichever one I hook up? Or would I have to re-configure it when switching from one vehicle to the other?

Hey RB, thanks for reaching out!
The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Brake Controller # TK94FR goes into "sleep mode" after 30 minutes of inactivity, whether connected to the tow vehicle or not, and it will retain the current settings until you manually change them.
The braking has more to with the weight off the trailer as opposed to the tow vehicle. Since you'll be switching between a truck and an SUV you likely won't need to make any adjustments. If your tow vehicles were significantly different in size, then that's when you'd likely need to adjust the brake settings between the vehicles.
This is the perfect kind of brake controller for someone switching tow vehicles frequently like yourself!
What trailer will you be installing it on?

Thanks for that info. Couple more questions, please… Because of stuff in the way (trailer jack, main brake controller, breakaway safety switch, etc.), I cannot mount the Prodigy unit in the preferred location. -Does the Prodigy unit have to be installed with the unit’s cable pointed toward the vehicle and the trailer cable plugged into the rear of the unit? Can it be installed the other way around (unit cable coming out from the rear then looped around and plugged into the vehicle and trailer cable plugged into the front of the unit)? -As an alternative, can the unit be installed “sideways” on a cross member with the cables coming into the unit from the left and right? The diagram of preferred locations appears to show that as an option. Thanks!
