How Far Apart are the Mounting Holes for the Rhino-Rack Folding Kayak Carrier?

Updated 09/30/2025 | Published 09/13/2025

Question:

Can you tell me how far apart the mounting holes are? For my billiebars system I need to know the measurement to see if they will work.

Hey Donald, thanks for reaching out!

The mounting holes (or bolts) on the Rhino-Rack Kayak Roof Rack # S512 are 4-1/8" apart (see attached).

I reached out to BillieBars and they said their crossbars are 3.14” wide x 1.57” tall. So this will fit as far as the width goes, but while I had the kayak carrier out I checked the height of the bolts with the mounting plate and with a 1.57" tall bar you'll maybe only be able to get like one or two threads of the wing knobs onto the bolt so I don't think it's going to hold super well.

As an alternative, I highly recommend going with the Kuat Class 4 V2 Kayak Roof Rack # KU33VR instead. This is actually the same carrier that BillieBars highlights on their website, and Kuat did a great job at making their kayak carriers able to work with larger bars as well as the standard ones.

What do you think?

Hey Donald, did you decide to go with the Kuat Class 4 V2 Kayak Roof Rack for your BillieBars system? I'm curious to know if it worked out for you, as it could help others facing a similar decision.

@JonG Hey so I went with the Kuat class 2 carriers. Different is the class 2 are fixed. Cheaper and less parts to fail i figured. Would like collapsible but maybe in the future. Both the class 2 and the class 4 work with the BillieBars.

@DonaldA The Class 2 Kit # C2R1B is also a great option - glad to hear you got something that works on your BillieBars!
