E-Bike Rack Recommendation for Rear Hitch of Cougar 5th Wheel

Published 08/27/2025

Question:

I am interested in buying the Escapee RV Bike Rack hitched on the back of our Cougar 5th Wheel. My concern is with the clearance between the handlebars and the camper on the inside bike, We have standard Trek 7100 hybrid bikes. The measurement is approx 12.5 inches from handlebar center to outside edge. Your one video stated 12.5 inches. That doesnt leave much wiggle room from scratches. Our 2 inch receiver sits flush with the camper. Have you had many folks with this issue? Can we return the rack if we are not satisfied with this clearance? Thank you Scott

Hey Scott, I have a solution for you but the Escapee is not rated for the rougher ride quality at the rear of a 5th wheel trailer so while the clearance would be tight it wouldn't work even if it did clear. Instead what you'd want is the Hollywood Racks RV Rider Bike Rack # HLY64FR which is rated for use at the back of 5th wheel campers and also has more clearance so it would work. How do you like the Treks?

Thanks for the reply Jameson. Please verify for me as the E-Trailer Website says the Swagman Escapee is RV Rated for the 5th Wheel. Thank you, Scott

@ScottH You're right. Sorry about that. It wasn't listed in our category page for bike racks that are 5th wheel rated so I assumed it wasn't but on the product page it definitely is.
