Hi Barry!

You can indeed flat tow your 1994 Ford Ranger with the 5-speed manual, which is the transmission you want as you don't need to disconnect the driveshaft (you do with the automatics).

You didn't mention if you have the Splash package on your 1994 Ford Ranger or not, but the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - Fixed Arms # BX2117 actually fits models with or without that package and would be the one I would go with. It will also fit the Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 10,000 lbs # BX7420 you were looking at, but with the max curb weight of a '94 Ranger is 3,208 pounds. The Avail is pretty overkill and the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox and Curt Base Plates - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6K lbs # e47ZR would be better suited for you. Plus it's less expensive.

Do you have the rest of the needed parts to set your truck up for flat towing?

Hey Barry, Did you manage to set up your Ford Ranger for flat towing with the parts we discussed? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you, as it could help others with similar towing needs.
