Why Would Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness Fail Two Times in a Row

Question:
I have had 2 TEKONSHA 118413 T-One® T-Connector Harness fail in my 2005 Toyota Highlander. In both cases, their was melted insulation where the ground wire exited the converter module on the trailer side. Prior to failure, all seemed normal. Grounding seems solid as well. Ideas?

Hey Tim, that sounds like a short to ground on the trailer side of the wiring. I would go over the trailer wiring looking for any cut or exposed wire and fix as needed. Did the second harness fail pretty quickly after install?

Hey Tim, did you find any issues with the trailer wiring after checking for cuts or exposed wires? I'm asking because it could help others who might face a similar problem.
