Will The Reese 20k 5th Wheel Hitch Interfere With My Tonneau Cover?

Updated 08/13/2025 | Published 08/04/2025

Question:

Looking at a Reese 20k oem hitch for a Ram with puck system. RP30918. My question is the handle looks like it curls upward, I have a tonneau cover, will the handle stick up too far when not towing to close my cover?

Hey Tim,

The Reese 20k 5th Wheel option # RP30918 sometimes interferes with the tonneau cover depending on which model you have. However, there is a low profile handle available for that hitch that does not have issues with a tonneau cover and will allow you to use both with ease. That handle is # RP58553. This is designed to sit flush and not have an issue closing that tonneau cover.

What kind of cover do you have on your truck?

Nick, Thank you for the response, I am in the process of deciding which way to go. I am stuck between this reese hitch and the Curt A25 stationary hitch that fits my Ram with the puck system. Any things I should consider when comparing the two?

@TimL I would say between those 2 hitches, I recommend the Reese # RP30918. Since I don't personally tow a 5th wheel I have heard from some co-workers that the jaw design on the Reese allows for an easier latch and un-latch when towing. There is really no down side to either Curt or Reese, both are great hitch options. Something that makes towing go more fluently is a great aspect to keep in mind. That would be my recommendation. What kind of trailer are you towing?

@NickS I am towing a Jayco North point, 43’10”. 15000 pounds dry weight. With a 2025 Ram Dually.

@NickS Also I noticed in the reviews that one person flipped the stock handle over to accommodate his tonneau cover vs buying the other handle ….
