Can New Furrion AC Unit Work With Old Dometic AC System?
Updated 09/02/2025 | Published 08/03/2025 >
Question:
I just replaced my Demonic AC unit with a Furrion 15 K unit. The salesman told me I did not have to replace the thermostat nor the inside electrical hook ups and would plug right into the connection. I replaced the freeze protection sensor also but my unit is constantly freezing up and dripping water inside where you can open the distribution vent! Any ideas of what I can do or what I have to do to correct this?

Hello Michael, thanks for reaching out. I have never heard of a Demonic AC unit, but I have heard of Dometic. Although if your AC is possessed by a Demon that may explain the issue! Just kidding. Anyway...
It sounds like the salesman you talked to might have given you some bad info. The new Furrion AC units use a new R32 refrigerant, and these units are not backwards compatible with older AC systems. In some cases there is an adapter plug that MAY work but in most cases even the adapters do not allow things to work normally. The only surefire fix for this would be to replace the distribution box, controller and thermostat. This will be the only way we can guarantee everything will intercommunicate correctly. Even if your Furrion unit is the old r410a refrigerant, there is no guarantee it will work with an older Dometic AC system.
The issue you are describing could also be caused by a faulty, or incorrectly installed freeze sensor. But given you are mixing and matching brands with your AC and controller, that is more likely the cause of the issues.
What Furrion AC did you get exactly? Do you have the model number? Let me know and I can recommend the rest of the parts you will need.
