Will Reese Goose Box for Columbus Palomino 384RKH Provide Enough Turning Clearance
Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 06/05/2025 >
Question:
I have a 2022 Ford F-250 with the standard 6’9 bed and I’m going to be towing a Columbus Palomino 384RKH 43’ long RV. I was considering going the Reese Goose Box + Gooseneck Hitch route but after doing some research I’m not sure I’ll have enough clearance for turns and might need a sliding 5th wheel hitch. Any insight/product recommendations for this set-up?

Hey Rigo, I checked out the front of the Columbus Palomino 384RKH and it has an extended pin box and a tapered nose so you'd have decent turning clearance without a slider hitch and a Goose Box part # RP85FR installed on it but it really depends. If you think you'll need to get to a 90 degree turn often then maybe a slider hitch is best. This is a pretty long camper too so likelihood of needing to get a little more extreme with the turning angles is a little higher but again that depends on roads you'll be on and how good you are at backing into sites etc.
How valuable is it to you to be able to get the full 90 degree turn?

Hey Rigo, did you decide to go with the Goose Box or opt for a sliding 5th wheel hitch for your setup? I'm curious to know how your choice worked out, as it could help others in a similar situation.
